    Medical Receptionist RANT

Definitely speak up! It's their job to be polite and helpful and good manners don't cost anything! I went to my Diabetic Clinic a couple of years ago which shares the reception area with a cancer clinic. I was supposed to be at the Diabetic Centre but didn't realise it was in a different part...

    Diarhroea control?

My GP suggested Co-phenatrope because Imodium made me feel sick. It has been brilliant but can only be obtained On prescription so you'll need to see your GP. Took a while to get my dosage sorted and it can be difficult to get but it's worked well for me.

    Pump question

I was assessed and had all initial groundwork done about 5 years ago and then heard nothing! Was told funding wasn't available but other patients have had a pump fitted since then. I now have end stage kidney failure and awaiting a transplant. Can't help feeling that things may have been...

Really Annoyed...And more than a little scared.

You can certainly enjoy life in the same way as anyone who doesn't have diabetes. You can have alcoholic drinks and party all night if you want to you just need to make sure you take steps to ensure that you don't take massive hypos thru the night as alcohol lowers blood sugars. Do the DAFNE...

Terminal and. Scared - UPDATE !

Hi Sable_Jan Just in relation to your voice software, have you tried searching Google play for an app? Quite often you can find something to try for free. When I was still working I googled for a digital dictation program and found a really good one with voice recognition for free. Sent from...

    DAFNE Online Course

As far as I know DAFNE is just for T1 but there are variations in different regions so it would be worth checking with your Health Trust. Your DSN should be able to point you in the right direction. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Pancreas Transplant

It's a difficult decision. When I first heard of people getting pancreas transplants I thought why wouldn't you? Surely it's a no braIner! Until you hear about the complications and risks in Surgery etc. Suddenly it's not such an easy decision to make! I find my hypos usually follow additional...

    DAFNE Online Course

Yes you're right. It is difficult to get on them. I waited for months and even then I was only able to do the course because I am on sick leave at present. Otherwise I would have had problems getting time off work to attend. I think there were about 10 of us attending the course and hearing...

Really Annoyed...And more than a little scared.

I think you're right. Your opinion will be unpopular amongst many diabetics and diabetes Specialist nurses and doctors in the UK. I think you should maybe look into the principles of the DAFNE course before you suggest that it provides misinformation. I personally have found it to be...

    DAFNE Online Course

Could I just say the DAFNE course is great and there is BERTIE course also which is one day a week for a month rather than one full week. However having done this course myself I think you'd find attending a course in person and having the support of others in the same situation is very helpful...

Really Annoyed...And more than a little scared.

Hi XIX I was diagnosed 17 years ago as T1 when I was in my early twenties. I completely understand your issues with food and diet. I had an eating disorder in my teens and I have to say it has never really left me. I was in denial to begin with that there was anything wrong with me. However I...

    Pancreas Transplant

I am currently suspended from the transplant list for a kidney and pancreas. I'm suspended as I've recently had surgery and can't be on the list until I heal. I have to say once the surgeon explained what a pancreas transplant entails I am thinking twice about it. On the one hand I think I...

One for the Ladies (Newly diagnosed type 1)

Do the DAFNE course. It will show you how you can miss meals etc providing your background insulin is correct for you and then you won't need to worry about typos when teaching. Good luck with it all and keep well. Keep good control because the alternatives are not good!

    Please please look after yourselves....

I have suffered with most of these complications. The blood pressure is a problem although mine doesn't drop as far. I too had the eating disorder of keeping my blood sugar high to control my weight and I still feel guilty with everything I put in my mouth. No one ever realised it was an eating...

    Medical Receptionist RANT

It's not just doctors receptionists although they are the worst. One of the receptionists at the diabetic clinic in my local hospital was really rude to me one day. He was so bad I actually made an official complaint after about 17 years of attending the clinic. There was no need for his...
