    Confused after visit to GP

I also hypoed on Metformin. I was on too many. Asked doc to reduce. He refused. My hubbie called NHS line and a paramedic appeared. He tested my bs and I had hypoed. Hospital told me to stop taking it. Doc refused to reduce meds. Very good chemist and he reduced meds. When I have had a cold or...

Back to school and not looking forward to breakfasts!

Scrambled egg made with double cream and smoked salmon ribbons goes down a storm in our house. Normally, up with the larks in term time, turn oven on, feed dog, put sausages in oven, make pack ups and get kids ready. Put on eggs(poached), make tea and coffee, pour milk and then take lot to...

Called into the office for using my insulin in staffroom

Supply now I don't have to work full time! And I do educate them. Oddly enough, it's the adults not the kids who need the reeducation - hence this thread! I was told to test in the cupboard. Errrr....... No! Why should I? I tested at my desk and would do so in the future if I needed to. I object...

Called into the office for using my insulin in staffroom

I don't think anyone should feel compelled to injecting in a toilet! Toilets are not hygienic places! Especially ones which are shared with other people. Nightclubs will be even worse as some of the people using them will be drunk and miss, not wash hands, etc I could go on but fear that people...

Called into the office for using my insulin in staffroom

Don't see why you should have to go to the loo! It's a medical condition and if people don't like it then they can look away! Hugs to you!

    are salted peanuts allowed?

Depends on which diet you follow. I eat them on lchf and am fine. Usually have a couple of handfuls. Lidl sell mixed nuts in a bag and I often have several handfuls a day of peanuts or the mixed nuts. Can't comment on healthy plate. Probably limited amounts on that but you'd need to ask someone.

Type 1 diabetes rant :). ( revised title ). DIABETES RANT.

I object to the idiots who issue blame for either diabetes type 1 or 2. I am type 2. However, all of my grandparents and their siblings on my mothers side were T1. I strongly believe that it's not just a question of who ate all the pies as 80% of obese people are not diabetic. I think there is a...

Type 1 diabetes rant :). ( revised title ). DIABETES RANT.

I am glad you have brought up the issue of insensitivity as I find your remarks both insensitive and offensive. Do you really believe that people have to experience things to empathise? As has already been pointed out, diabetes is an awful disease whether T1 or T2 and we should be united in our...

NHS Direct doctor says... NO testing when taking Metformin

Join the merry club of encountering doctors who are fuckwits. Carry on testing and staying in control. On the main website there is an article re a 17% reduction for people who maintain control with bs. As you quite rightly state - how do I know what my levels are if I don't test! Mine gave in...

    Diabetic teachers?

Had a couple of hypos as of late and had to sit in our FLC. They are all into the eat well plate which I am fervently against as I follow LCHF. This leads to lectures about diet and people trying to force carb heavy sugar laden food down me. If I refuse, it leads to arguments. They cannot...

    Comments on this meal

First of all, can I say that you are not alone in finding food a nightmare when first diagnosed. I remember not knowing what to eat. I kept a food diary and tested before eating then every 30 mins for 2 hours. It used a lot of strips but enabled me to see what foods spiked me, when they spiked...

How did your partner react when you told him/her you have diabetes?

I lost the most - I had the most to lose! He lost 2.5 stone in 3 months and now maintains. I am going through a plateau at the moment but am not too dispondent. This happens and it will start again when it feels like it. It's frustrating initially but you just have to go with the flow.
