Is MDI the right way to treat newly diagnosed T1 diabetes given the current educational model?

I think it may be tricky to give people a choice when they're newly diagnosed - how are the supposed to know what those things even mean? :) I can only say from my experience. When I was diagnosed I was given Novomix and told to inject X units, record everything, etc. But I was also given a...

NICE Recommends Medtronic Pump with CGM for Type 1

See here: http://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/DG21/chapter/1-Recommendations As far as I know, this is a first recommendation for CGM + Pump from Nice. It talks about people with "disabling hypos", but they recognize that using the pump with cgm can save money for the NHS!

Should I expect my cholesterol to improve?

I know they have been changing a bit but I didn't really care about them too much so I'm not sure which way they went. I think they improved initially and then worsened when I started experimenting with carbs... I guess I'll go stop my experiments after Christmas and should see them improve...

Should I expect my cholesterol to improve?

Hi everyone I've been on LCHF for quite some time now, experimenting a lot and I'm loving it. I'm feeling great, my BG is stable, my weight is stable, all perfect. Before I started LCHF my bad cholesterol was raised and it still is. Should I be expecting it to improve on LCHF? I was doing a...

    Dexcom G5 Prices Now Revealed!

Yep, that's why smart people of this world came up with "Bluetooth low energy" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_low_energy) which is supposed to use 10% of the energy that the "original" Bluetooth needs. The chips in phones still use Classic Bluetooth most of the time, especially if...

    Dexcom G5 Prices Now Revealed!

The Bluetooth low-energy tech which technically uses way less power than the wifi chip in G4...? I was kind of expecting the Bluetooth transmitter to last LONGER than the wifi one...

    Dexcom G5 Prices Now Revealed!

I received a response from AT about the FDA thing. Basically because of the FDA, Dexcom can only sell the receiver and transmitter together, so AT gets them together as a pack so they sell it like that. From what I understand AT is technically only a reseller so they sell things however Dexcom...

    Dexcom G5 Prices Now Revealed!

Aaah, that would make sense! Receivers with the share feature had bluetooth chip in, so they can use it for G5. I was wondering how the "update" would work with the old G4 receiver, since it has a wifi-type chip not bluetooth. So that explains it :)

    Dexcom G5 Prices Now Revealed!

Just did exactly that. My guess is: they're trying to make more money and use the FDA ruling as a cover :D I'll let you know what the response will be.

    Dexcom G5 Prices Now Revealed!

I got a reply from AT that they only sell receiver + transmitter because of the "FDA ruling"... not sure how FDA rulings have any legal power in Europe..?! In the diatribe post they say it's possible to update the software on the G4 receiver to G5, but AT said it's only available in the US :( I...

    Dexcom G5 Prices Now Revealed!

So you can use both at the same time? From AT website I got an impression that you can only receive data on one device, not on both. If you can have it on both, that would be cool. Otherwise, it would make the receiver useless for me :)

    Dexcom G5 Prices Now Revealed!

I thought the whole point of G5 was to get rid of the receiver completely and use your phone. According to AT website here: http://www.advancedtherapeuticsuk.com/dexcom-g5%C2%AE-mobile they still sell the receiver because use can use whichever you want (your phone or the receiver). If they allow...

    Updated NICE T1 guidelines published

When it comes to the cgm cost for the nhs... Are you saying that if they made a deal for 1000s of sensors with the supplier they couldn't get the price down? Exactly that happens with the test strips right now - just compare the price for the nhs with the retail price. They could probably get...
