    Covid vaccine

I had my second vaccination last week and have been fine. I had a sore arm and was tired for a couple of days but no side effects apart from that. Benefits far outweigh any minor side effects in my opinion. But do talk to your GP if you have concerns.

    Cholesterol and Statins

My reading was 5 so GP pushed for statins saying it was too high. Now after 3 different kinds because they made me feel grim it is down to 4.8. Hardly earth-shattering reduction. I have aching hips and legs which ‘may’ be down to statins. I have read a great deal about this and do find it...

    New Year resolutions

My new year resolution... Diagnosed 6 years ago. January 2014. Lost a lot of weight with Newcastle diet. Learned to run and have done 6-8k six days a week. For six years. Off diabetes register though still have annual HbA1c and eye test each year. GP insists. So, ... have kept weight...

Montezuma chocolate - are the carbs wrong

Hotel Chocolat 100% cocoa did nothing to my BS levels, nor did Montezuma. I have been dropping hints about Christmas presents.....

For those who are in remission/reversed their diabetes- how long have you been in remission for

Diagnosed January 2014. Achieved remission/reversal May 2014. Removed from diabetes register. Now considered non- diabetic. I have continued to eat very healthily, keep off the 5 stones I lost and run 6 days out of 7. It is a way of life now. But hard at times. Last HbA1c May 2019 was...

    Please don’t stop posting...

I have updated my signature as I am now five years on so you can see how I am doing. It is possible, but there is no doubt that it can be hard work and at times I get really fed up with it. But then I remind myself that the possible alternatives are much worse!

    Please don’t stop posting...

How kind! I have kept an eye on the forum and posted occassionally but didn’t feel I had anything new to say! I behave like an alcoholic in my head- I don’t have any sugar products as I think that just like an alcoholic it would be me on the slippery slope again! I never eat rice, potatoes...

Inspiration Needed - Type 2 - How did you manage to reverse your Diabetes?

I was diagnosed type 2 January 27 th 2014. My GP told me about an interesting article he had just read by an endocrinologist in Newcastle- professor Taylor- and his research. I went home, downloaded all the papers, read them and emailed GP to see if there was any medical reason I could not...

    LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

My GP alerted me to the ND in the first place then supported me through it. He had just read the first paper in a medical journal. It is so important to get support. My husband made me amazing meals with the vegetable allowance and lots of soups. I still have soup for lunch every day. And...

    LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

I lost 6 stones in 2014 following diagnosis with the Newcastle diet and exercise. Have continued low carb and exercise since then and avoid all the usual culprits. Recently realised 6lbs had crept on so did ND again though only for 6 weeks and it has gone. Still off diabetes register and last...

    Weight Stalling

I have been very interested reading this thread and have realised that stalled weight loss is happening to so many of us. I was diagnosed T2 in January 2014 and immediately went on the Newcastle diet and bought a second hand treadmill. By the end of June I had lost 6 stones and learned to run...

    hospital food

The only thing I could eat for one evening meal was broccoli. So I ticked the box for a large portion as I had had no breakfast - white toast, white rolls, sugary cereal, orange juice - no lunch- white bread sandwiches, full sugar yogurt, apple juice - and when it arrived everyone in the ward...

    Type 2 Sugarfree confectionery

I buy them from Amazon and also from M&S. Keep a tub at work as well as at home and have one of two as a treat each day. But not too many as definitely have laxative effect!

Feel as if I have messed my body up losing weight too fast

Check the impact that medication for other conditions can have on your weight loss attempts and on maintaining weight loss. I lost 6 stones on the NC diet within 5 months of being diagnosed in January 2014 with type 2 diabetes and learned to run. But I have to work incredibly hard to keep it...

    Pitta Bread?

I make a big pot of soup at the weekend and freeze portions in those fab containers that you just put straight into the microwave to defrost and heat. Just take one to work every day. Filling, low carb and nutritious. BS levels fine afterwards. I can also have small slice spelt bread with the...

Type 2 To Snack Or Not To Snack

I found that spelt bread had little impact on my levels. You can buy it or make it yourself. I also could not find the Lidl ones. Frustrating!

Refused Flu Tablets at the Chemist

I have just finished being in a clinical trial where they were looking at paracetamol and blood pressure. They think anyone with raised BP should not take paracetamol as it pushes it up. The next one apparently is the relationship between diabetes meds and BP levels.
