How many units do you take a day?

As the title suggests, how many units of insulin do you take each day? I seem to be taking different amounts of bolus insulin every day in the quest for perfect blood sugars. Also, sometimes my number is lower post meal than pre meal but still in the 4-7mmol range. So would this be considered...

Type 1 How high should your blood sugar get post meal?

Ok, so I am aware that the guidelines for a Type 1 diabetic suggest to be under 9mmol after eating a meal. However, I was told by my DSN that you can go up to 14mmol 2 hours post meal as long as you drop back down to a number between 4-7mmol before your next meal. Does this seem right? I have...

Does PRADAXA and anti coagulant medication increase TYPE @ diabetes?

Hi! I have recently changed my blood thinning medication from WARFARIN to PRADAXA (Dabigatran). Earlier my average readings were between 4.3 to 5.2. After changing my medication the readings are 6.3. Daily checking shows high readings of 6.6 to 8.9. Does anyone have a similar situation?

    Insulin to carb ratio

Hi, I have been told that it will be trial and error over the next few weeks for me to work out my insulin to carb ratio. Out of curiosity, what are other people's insulin to carb ratios and do they vary over the course of the day? Thanks in advance.

    Why am I so cold?

I'm starting to get pretty desperate. I'm waiting on an appointment to see a neurologist (it takes weeks to see one apparently) and recent blood tests came back ok/normal. I'm extremely fatigued and constantly feeling cold. I have lots of "cold" spots on my body - tops of legs, shoulders, arms...

    Type 1 Easter...

Right, This may sound like a really silly question, but I am absolutely brand new to all this and all I keep thinking is how much I miss eating even the tiniest bit of chocolate at the moment! Does anybody ever indulge at Easter? Is there a particular chocolate which doesn't spike your blood...

Dr told me to stop taking . . . .

My BP meds! Finally, after what seems like forever living with high, and sometimes very dangerous blood pressure my BP lowered to a new (too) low reading a few days ago. Thankfully, I realised the signs and got my BP monitor out to check it - it had gone down to 96/62. I phoned my...

Pattern management for Type 2 (no insulin)?

Hi, I have read about pattern management from this site, but seems it is mainly for type 1 diabetes, or type 2 on at least 2 insulin injections a day (see below, coped from the web page). My question is if the pattern management can be useful for type 2 patients with no insulin injections, the...

    Diagnosed today

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed today with type2 diabetes and have started taking metformin. I took my first tablet this morning and all afternoon I've had horrendous stomach cramps. Could this be due to the tablets? Has anyone experienced this? Many thanks.
