Went to see my Doc who said to try acupuncture for my back pain as i have a prolapse disc. I was going to see the Physio who said she would ask the Physio who does the acupuncture. Came back and said she will not do it because I am diabetic, she does no know why as she didnt ask her!!!
So WHY???? does anybody know please????

I don't know why but maybe she could ask her. There isn't any good scientific evidence that acupuncture works anyway.

Hi @layne56 ,

The answer is very simple. Diabetics are more susceptible to infections.. Though in fairness good BS control, sanitation & sterile equipment should not cause issue..
I personally have never tried acupuncture myself..

What should have happened is that the physio who does the acupuncture should have spoken to you, filled in a questionnaire and then made a decision. A lot would depend on whether you have complications or other health matters and that would decide as to whether it was suitable for you.

I would phone the department and as for an explanation considering that your Dr. recommended it. Would also make my Dr. aware of the casual way you were dismissed.

I'm Type 1 and I was given acupuncture by a podiatrist. There was no problem with it. It didn't actually help my foot (time did help!) but my husband had acupuncture for his back and it was a tremendous help, much better than the physiotherapy exercises he'd been doing for weeks.

I have acupuncture from a chartered physiotherapist (who is head of the practice) it is flippin painful but it totally works. She only does it when my my hip is very painful, I have hypermobile joints so get imflammation there. The accupuncture is actually in the joint.
