Hi Stillo,

What are you eating because the drugs have limited effect, they do help but its mostly what you put into your body that causes the blood glucose to rise. Also are you getting any exercise I find that the day after I do cardio my BG levels are down.
Also I find that stress drives my BG up so if your stressing about your BG levels its probably not helping either,

If you haven't read this viewtopic.php?f=39&t=23279 go take a look.

Keep a food dairy and test what your BG level after different foods. It will help you identify which foods are driving the BG levels.
Everyone is different so what may be causing you spikes and issues may be fine for some one else. Lots of people here are on low or reduced carb intake and find that its helping them control their levels. I'm looking into the glycemic load diet at the moment to see if it would be beneficial to me. Its about the rate at which your body metabolises various foods, slower is better for blood glucose levels and its adjusted for the amounts that you actually eat. Remember if you cant measure it you cant manage it .

I'm only diagnosed since October so I'm still learning a lot. The fact that you are trying to figure this out is good, its easy to ignore it and hope it gets better. As for the fasting I'd talk to your doctor first. There is a risk that you might have a hypo incident , so there may be some precautions required.

Hi
Thanks for your reply, unfortunately i have had problems with rising levels for the last couple of months particularly since starting Januvia, this may sound as though i am being daft but no matter what i eat my levels rise to around 16 and today have rise to 17.5 2 hours after eating 2 boiled eggs and that is all i have had all day so far hence the reason for not wanting to eat anything to see what happens

This may sound strange almost impossible even and i am prepared to wager money on it if i eat nothing for 24 hours i will not go Hypo and my level will still be beyond safe levels.

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
Was that diagnosis of T2 confirmed or just assumed[ because of age]? I ask because T1 doesn't respond to those medicines.

Judgemental people, everyone is entitled to their opinion but when people don't listen they will never learn. I know that cause that's how I used to be.

Hi Hanna

Type 2 confirmed have been for 2 years never have had good control medication supplied and yes i am extremely tired and a painful headache today i have been urinating at least every half hour even though i have hardly drank anything, i have from 10 o'clock this morning tested my blood every hour on the hour and the lowest reading so far is 12.4 and that was when i woke up,the highest being 17.5 two hours after two boiled eggs the rest of the readings in between have not been less than 16, thank you both for taking the time to respond it's much appreciated maybe there is something wrong with my meter i have a brand new one and i will check with that tomorrow when i can get a test cassette for it

Stillo,

I was diagnosed as a type 2 in November 2010. By spring this last year my levels were like yours and refused to come down despite Metformin, Januvia and Gliclazide (the Gliclazide had brought my levels down okay on initial diagnosis but would not work 18 months down the line). Even a lettuce leaf would spike me!!
I eventually got referred to a Consultant at the hospital who said by my description of my initial diagnosis (levels of 25 and about 1.5 stone weight loss) I would really be a type 1. She subsequently did a GAD antibody test which came back positive (1943) thus confirming I was actually a type 1 who had been misdiagnosed
By the time I got to this hospital appointment I had lost 2 stones in weight (down to 7.5 stones BMI about 17.5) and had keytones of +4, she said within the 10 days if I waited for the GAD results before going onto insulin I would almost certainly be back as an emergency admission!!

Are you a slim type 2 or have you been losing weight?

Please try and get referred to a specialist.

Hi Angie

No i am not a slim type 2 i unfortunately since they told me i was diabetic have become 5 stone heavier i now stand at 17.1 stone no amount of carb restriction or any type of diet makes any difference.i have cycled to work a total of 12 miles per day and i have walked at least 3 miles a day in my employment, i have had the usual more exercise and less food and to be quite honest i am completely sick of it. I will continue taking my readings every hour for the next couple of days and then will be back at Dr's if there is no change demanding treatment. at this time 18.38pm my readings are a little lower at 13.8 but i have not eaten since about 2.00pm

Stillo, how incredibly frustrating, you poor thing! I don't think fasting is the answer, though: as Yorkman says, it's not like a petrol tank that goes lower and lower as you use it up - your liver makes more glucose if you are short of it, and dumps it randomly in the bloodstream, and if you either don't have enough insulin, or aren't responsive to insulin, you can't get rid of it easily. I do hope your doctor has some answers for you xx
