I have recenly split my long acting LEVIMIR dose am/pm to aid better control.
I previously injected 30 units pre bed at approx 10.00pm (for approx 20yrs)!
I now split 18/18 which is a higher total dose than previous but working for me to date!
I now administer at 8pm (just after evening meal) and 8am (just before breakfast)
My concern is that it is now hard to judge whether any subsequent highs/lows are the cause of Levimir or my short acting Novorapid i take with meals?
Is it good practice to inject with meals at the same time as my short acting Novorapid?
I appreciate we are all different (what works for one doesn't for another) however any advice on the 'recommended' timing of intake woud be very useful.
Thankyou in advance

LWA,

Provided your insulin ratios are correct with your novorapid at meal times, the only way of knowing if your basal insulin dosage is correct is by doing a fasting test. Injecting both insulin's together but in different sites isn't a problem to my knowledge and I have done this many times over the years, the only hazard I can see is that you may get the two mixed up or become confused, meaning you may inject one twice or not at all occasionally, but this may be a question to ask your dsn for their professional opinion.

You say you have injected both 'same time' many times over the years but is this due to circumstance (such as eating late or not wanting to take carry levimir on a night out so injecting early) rather than your usual timing?
i have been used to injecting levimir at 10pm every night for so many years i wonder whether i should return to doing it at 10pm rather than 8pm?
The reason i switched is that it it conveiniant to do my a.m injection at 8am and thought best to keep an even 12hr interval, but i'm not sure how neccessary this actually is?
Any thoughts/theories much appreciated.....

LWA, as long as you stick to pretty much the same time everyday it doesn't matter when you take your basal insulin, I use to take mine before bed but now inject early evening around 7-8pm for my own convenience. You may have to make adjustments to your split doses if you do a 10pm/8am split so do keep this in mind.
