Hi all, i'm new here but have been reading various sites for a while trying to make sense of some self test results and the way I feel sometimes, many of the symptoms would agree with touches of hypoglacemia but it doesn't look like this is the case, I have also been noted down with mood swings, migraines, occasional stroke like symptoms, numbness, tempature sensitivity, occasional eye sight blur and a few other problems, for a while they concluded I was bipolar, but this has been ruled out and I have no current diagnosis.

My gp has admitted he doesn't know enough and has referred me to an endocronologist but there is a long wait, I have had a stomach operation many years ago, nissen fundoplication back in 1997, and still have problems with gastric dumping, inability to vomit or belch, bloatedness, constipation or diarrohea, etc.

I have had a full blood count, creatine, r electrolytes, serum calcium, serum inorganic phosphate, liver function, r protein, plasma c reactive protein, serum ferritin, r cortison and r thyroid tsh level tests done which apparently are all in the normal ranges.

I did see on the screen that my random blood glucose serum level was 3.4 mmol, I hadn't fasted that day as it was a random test and hadn't been asked to.

Along with other signs and issues, question from the dentist about my healing, noticing patterns with eating, the clammy tingling numb headache feelings I get, I started to question whether I have erratic blood sugar levels or some other problem.

It seems to me that my levels are erratic whether or not I eat, some days I really cannot manage to eat yet my levels seem to go up and down like a yo-yo still.

I have noticed that my numbers seem to roughtly follow my moods, one evening out I felt really high and manic so I checked and I was just over 10. Another night I was fitting door frames when I started to feel low, weak, shakey, slow and clammy, checked the meter and I was 4.0 when i'd found it. Although none of these numbers seem out of normal range, or i'm not catching them in time, there does seem to be some correlation and i'm starting to be able to predict the number based on how I feel.

My morning fasting blood glucose levels are between 4.0 and 6.0, sometimes it seems I wake up higher than I went to sleep if I went to bed on a lowish number around 4 mmol and have a headache, sweated out pillows, duvet, etc.

It may just be coincidental but it seems that if I eat before bed and go to bed on a higher number, I wake up at a lower number and feel better.

The lowest result I have recorded myself is 3.2 mmol and the highest I have recorder is 10.6 mmol so it would seem that they are within normal.

Yesterday I decided to have a go at a crude home ogtt, using 380ml of Lucozade apple, maybe not the most accurate test but just to get a rough idea and see what people think.

The results were as follows,

0705 Fasted, pre drink 4.1
0720 15 min 10.5
0735 30 min 10.6
0805 60 min 4.4
0835 90 min 3.3
0905 120 min 5.8
0935 150 min 4.9

That was all the test strips I have used as I have to buy my own, just wondered if this all looked normal or whether I really need to try and find someone who understands better, if I had more I would of expected to see some higher and lower numbers, as from previous readings it seems that a lot can happen in the space of a few minutes.

If I had more test strips, given the previous readings and graphs I have, I would of expected the results to of gone back up again over another half hour or so and then start dropping out again.

I have graphed the results of some meals, and while not out of range as such, it seems I play ping pong from high to low a few times.

Just wanted to check that this all seems normal to people, i'm sure some would be grateful for a set of results like above but i'm trying to get to the cause of my mood disturbances and feelings of poor health as it has already torn this family apart, I now live alone and visit my children on alternate weekends and have lost my interest in working, although this is likely to be related to the now non bipolar disorder, just trying to exhaust the list, hopefully i'll find a resolve soon and live happily ever after! lol

Sorry to want something on my first post.

Hello technicaldan

Most of use on the forum are not qualified to give you a medical opinion and even those that are would not do so over the internet so I'm afraid you are unlikely to receive any detailed replies.

Saying that in my totally non healthcare professional opinion the results of your self administered gtt test look pretty normal to me. The only comment I would make is you seem to mention levels in the 3's more often than most of us. My understanding is that an average non diabetics "normal" fasting range usually resides somewhere between around 3.8 and 5.5 so at first glance you could interpret the result you got as dropping a bit low prior to recovering to a normal level. I have no idea if that's a perfectly normal or an unusual response.

Good Luck and I hope you get things sorted out soon.

Hi there, I have a similar problem wth wild sugar swings, it sounds like Reactive Hypoglycemia,or perhaps the beginning of diabetes.Although I have been diagnosed with Diabetes with my levels ranging fron 2.4mmol to around 17mmol,if I drop anywhere below 5mmol I feel ill and dont feel better until I have eaten something, I also wake up with low blood sugar, but always have high fasting. They are now looking into LADA and MODY diabetes, as they originally said Type 2 but I am thin, athletic etc, not your "typical" type 2.But I experience all of your symptoms, my family all though I had bi polar or something.Hope they can sort you out soon as the sugar swings cause the most dreadful symptoms x

Hi. I wonder if you could help. I'm type 2 and I'm taking 500mg metformin twice daily. I had a rather weak moment and ate a couple of toffees. A bit panicky I tested my blood sugars and they were 8.1mmol. I'm a bit confused so should I worry any? Is this high or not bad? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
