I was diagnosed type 2 about a month ago and told only diet was needed to keep it under control ,I have stuck to the diet (which is what I have always eaten anyway) but still do not feel right, light headed, get very hungry ,forgetful, shaky.I do not see a nurse till January and no chance of seeing a doctor this side of Christmas. I wonder if I am not giving diet long enough. Any advice would be gratefully recieved as I cannot carry on feeling like this. Thank you

Hi Louloule, sorry you're feeling bad. Tell us what diet you're on and we can give you some specific pointers. Do you test your blood? you need to, because again we can help more if we know the sort of things that are happening to your sugar levels. Test just before, and then 2 hours after, a typical meal now and again. You'll see a pattern of how you're reacting to food, and will know what to avoid and what is OK
Good luck!

Thank you for your quick reply. I have not been told to test but I will now buy a test monitior. My diet is low fat. I have 2 slices of wholemeal bread a day, weetabix for breakfast, plenty of friut, salad ,veg, fish, do not eat red meat or fatty food ,cakes or chocolate etc. not sure what else I can do

Hi louloule and welcome to the forum Here is some information that we give to new members and this should help you, especially on diet and testing. Ask as many questions as you like as there is usually someone who will know the answer.

Louloule, Daisy's post is right. I was told about "low fat" and it's a waste of time. It's the carbs that get you! You'll see loads of posts on here from people who have gone the reduced carb route and feel massively better for it. Although your diet sounds "healthy", it has quite a lot of carbs in it. If the veg includes lots of potatos, particularly old ones boiled or mashed, it isn't so "healthy" for a diabetic. Give it a go with the reduced carbs, avoiding the starchy ones, and going for the low GI (glycemic index) ones and see how you get on.

I do not eat a lot of potatoes but will definatly try what you suggested. You are told none of this at the doctors, There seems so much to learn. will look and see what I can find out here about reduced carbs . Thank you so much for advice
