I have read that Metformin
is not a good idea for alcoholics. I don't drink very often and haven't had even a sniff of the bar maids apron since type 2 diagnosis but I want to be able to go out with some lovely new friends whose favourite place to go is a Belgian Beer Cellar, I would only have a couple of glasses, not pints. I know the decision is ultimately mine but does anyone know anymore info? The dietician, (wet ninny) thought it would be ok.
Any thoughts?

I take Metformin and I still drink beer regularly ! I'm not saying it's a great idea but to be honest, I've yet to have a tablet yet that doesn't mention alcohol ! You take your choice I guess ! I've never had any problems so far !
Take no notice of the scaremongering warnings. There are very few medications that can't be consumed with alcohol, and metformin certainly isn't one of them. I regularly wash mine down with a bottle of red wine
I've been on the wagon for 23 days !
Today I have just roasted a leg of lamb and am currently sampling a 2009 Chianti ! Absolute heaven !
I'll have to be careful or I'll be straight back on the booze.....
There is a very slight risk of Lactic Acidosis http://diabetes.emedtv.com/metformin/me ... dosis.html with metformin and alcohol. It is good to be aware of it and to tell your drinking partners. but saying that it doesn't stop me drinking alcohol.
