Ok briefly 78 female type 2 for over 20 years during which time I have reduced from over 18 st to 12.5 st. Was on insulin but recently reduced to 800 mg daily slow release.

Over past 3 years terrible tummy and b12 deficiency problems investigated but all normal. Over time this has given way to mental health problems which have along with escalating other medical problems came to a head this week. Had emergency health problems and waited over 8 hours in Urgent Care on plastic chair (abscess in nether regions) no finger pricks food or drink and late hours meant no cafe open. I asked at 11 pm if I could go home as it was starting to discharge and myself and clothing were becoming soiled. Told does not work that way you are being admitted for surgery and waiting for bed! First I hah heard of it! Long story short had it manually excised in non sterile surroundinga and allowed home. No Cleansing nothing.
My mind took over and I just stopped taking all medications. Over weekend mental health declined and advisors got involved and made emergency GP Appointment re Metformin. I told him it was making me fee fatigued and generally unwell. His reply shocked me ’well don’t take for 3 months and see how you feel. Really will I be ok I am shocked has type 2 diabetes been downgraded?

So sorry that you had such a dreadful experience in hospital and with other health profesdional encounters.

Is Meformin your only diabetes medication, @amicipat ?
Are you saying you have T2 diabetes? If your blood glucose levels are stable, perhaps your GP thinks you can manage with no meds just see how things progress until next HbA1c review.

Without knowing much about other meds and health conditions it will be difficult for members to advise.

Hope you feel better soon.

Just to add - the poster is on insulin! So no, not no longer a person with diabetes :) - T2D, I am assuming? Because of the metformin. And haven't seen anyone come in here and say no longer a T1. So, insulin dependent type two?

It seems the doc is taking you off metformin @amicipat, due to the possible side effects of fatigue and feeling of being unwell. And the lowered insulin dose, not my area, but due to the weight loss? The insulin experts will join in on that one I would imagine...

This is exactly what I was hoping the poster, @amicipat would clarify, as it is unclear in the post whether the reference in this quote

”Was on insulin but recently reduced to 800 mg daily slow release.”

meant no longer on insulin but recently on slow release Metformin, which has now been discontinued.

Without accurate information it is unwise to offer advice.
