Amazing Difference in just 24 hours

On Monday 3rd November, I had my 6 monthly blood tests. On Thursday 6th November my Doctor rang me at 09-55. He asked if I had let things slip a bit as my HBAc1 had gone from 50 to 58. I had to admit I had been eating whatever I wanted, including biscuits, chocolate, cakes etc. He told me that unless I get a grip he would have to change my Meds and maybe start injections.

I thought this was decent of the Doctor to concern himself and call me, as I have been a Type 2 Diabetic for 10 years now and have just carried on eating whatever I wanted.

My first reaction is that I didnt want injections, so I had better shape up. My normal morning readings after fasting was around 7.5 MML

This morning, after not eating any cakes, biscuits etc in the previous 24 hours, it was 6.3 MMl. Later on at lunch time I tested my blood again, and it was 5.8 MMl. before eating. I couldnt believe it, and to make matters even better, I have stopped going to the toilet every hour or so, so Ive definatlely got my head on now, and even Christmas is approaching, I am not going to fall back into eating whatever I want, and I will probably lose some weight in the process.

Just goes to show what a bit of serious advice and will power can do.

That is wonderful.

Sorry you have to give up all those lovely treats, but what a reward!

And there are some lovely low carb snacks out there (lots of threads on the forum, offering many ideas) is you do a quick search for 'snacks'.

Oh, and welcome! :)

Evidence is inconclusive for an ideal amount of total fat intake for people with diabetes;
therefore, goals should be individualized; fat quality appears to be far more important than quantity.
In people with type 2 diabetes, a Mediterranean-style, MUFA-rich eating pattern may benefit
glycemic control and CVD risk factors and can therefore be recommended as an effective alternative to a lower-fat, higher-carbohydrate eating pattern.

It certainly does :)

If you still fancy a piece of chocolate go for the 85% cocoa chocolate that is sold in most supermarkets, Aldi do one called Moser Roth, each pack has 5 individual bars and each one has 4g of carbs, it's much cheaper than some of the well known brands and tastes much nicer too,.

I think it is too early to conclude what is the best for you. By seeing radical changes in 24 hours probably does not mean a lot. HbA1c is the appropriate indicator. In what range are you with A1c?
I think, you still can have sweets of your choice in a reasonable quantity ,but you will have to burn the calories you take through your choice of foods.
I am also in a situation like you that my doctor alerts me that if I can not bring my HbA1c bellow 7.0% , he is going to switch me from oral medication to Insulin . I am not going to let him do that. So, now I am struggling a lot to lower my readings ,at the same time can not totally avoid food ( such as potato, rice....) from my diets. So, only way for me is increase the intensity of walking/exercise and I noticed that helps .
