I am a healthy eater no processed foods, I was diagnosed with an adrenal tumor in 2019, and I have high cortisol levels from the tumor which has lead to type 2 diabetes as well as high blood pressure
I just wondered if anyone here has an adrenal tumour, and have I actually got type 2 or is it my tumor?
last fasting blood test was 48
regularly 2 hours after meals, I am 4.9 mmol .
I have dropped to a low-carb diet NOT keto, I have 60g of carbs but most days I am under that
I have been working hard on my weight I was 18 stone 6lb when I was diagnosed in February this year I now weigh 14st 01/4
I struggle with physical exercise due to so much joint pain, but I make myself walk two extra miles a day

Hi there @andreaabbott1 , the high levels of cortisol you are producing maybe causing a significant rise in insulin resistance , which basically means the insulin you are producing becomes less effective and is likely raising your blood sugars. Now I’m not a HCP nor is this medical advice, I’m just a lay person, but one would think that once your tumour is removed your hormones will normalize. Type 2 diabetes is a catch all label for anyone who does not have autoimmune diabetes aka Type 1. My personal opinion , they should look at refining the Type 2 label as it’s confusing.

Hi @andreaabbott1 - congrats on your weight loss - that's a huge improvement.
I totally agree with @Melgar here, we tend to think of diabetes as being only about blood glucose, but the change is blood glucose is hormone driven (insulin), too little in type one, too much (while at the same time not being effective) in type 2. One of the secondary hormones that drives this is Cortisol, so once you have that under control, everything else you are doing will put you in great shape.

I tend to agree on the nomenclature - T2DM is simply when there is too much glucose in the blood to ignore.. but the routes to that point are many, and so the routes to undoing the problem are also many...
