Hello

New to the group and only really emerging from long time diabetic denial.

Are there any vegetarians out there? I'm looking for some ideas on what everyone eats?

I cook for a big family and would love to be inspired by suggestions, meal plans anything.

The rest of my family are healthy, thin., It's me. Large portions, second helpings and nibbles all day long. And chocolates.

How can I deal with diabetes, lose weight and cook for all the family, including growing teenagers, without making separate things?

Help please?
Thanks

I am on a strict diet at present & only allowed non starchy vegetables, the three main things I cook are chinese stir fry easy & very quick, can cook rice or noodles to go with it for the rest of the family... Curried vegetables again quick & again add rice for rest of family, baked vegetables also good with some olive oil & some balsamic vinegar & just add a chicken portion or some other meat or fish for the rest of the family, all three can use mant different types of veggies so can change it around as much as you like to give it variety.

Hope it helps

Thank you both for the replies.

I haven't had chance to look at all the German links yet but I will. Does that mean that there are a lot of diabetic German vegetarians?

I've bought some low GI books today and have taken delivery of Rose Elliot's vegetarian low carb book too.

I have a lot to learn as weight loss to mean means eat lots and lots of fruit.

Whitby Jet- You mentioned on your reply to my other post a food thread on this forum. I cant find it. Can you point me in the right direction please?

Thanks

Hi Carraway,

I would be very carefull with fruit, it can have a lot of sugar in it & not allways the best way to loose weight... I avoid fruit when I am dieting.

Hi caraway I am a veggie...t2 since nov last year...I cook for all....I have just used portion control or myself less bread....more fruit has helped me...I know we are all different... I use low fat or lighter cheese and diabetic chocolate.....I don't bake with sugar any more....I used to crave fizzy drinks for engery....now I have sugar free sometimes..... I use th same foods as before and without sugar I have got my sugars down from 19 to 6.5 which I am delighted with....and now have lost two and a half stone...it really has been what is right for me....must learn some new recipes though and find some new cakes to bake...I find my cakes go dry after a day or two with sweetener....but wouldn't touch sugar yet....but I'll do at some point and have a cake a a treat....thought I was a healthy veggie for over 50 years now....but this illness just creeps up on you....goodness must stop nice chatting with you kx

I love blue berries and strawberries.....but a banana helps me when I need a snack and feel a little odd...

Sometimes I have a piece of cheese ith some almond nuts it used to be a large bag of crisps...more selective these days :) kx
