I am a recent convert to lower carb management of BS.
Using different low carb cookbooks and have only recently obtained a copy of the South Beach Cookbook. American cookbooks are great once you convert where necessary but make my head spin at times trying to find / substitute certain ingredients.
There must be so many of you who have done the trial and error already...
So what is the best substitute for ' jicarma' ?
So what is the best substitute for ' arugula' ?
Pesto salmon, okra curry and faux po potatoes to-night so meals are never boring.
Re: Anyone any ideas about food substitutes for the followin
Sparkjack - arugula is rocket. And we cannot get jicama in the UK. There really is no substitute for it.
If you tell me the recipe that uses jicama as ingredient I night be able to come up with an idea.
Low carb cooking is interesting I agree, I am always on the look out for new recipes, lucky that my family don't mind being guinea pigs trying all those new concoctions with me. Its fun.
Re: Anyone any ideas about food substitutes for the followin
Thanks WhitbyJet. I'm not a fan of rocket someone else suggested turnip greens......
Jicarma= suggestions have been try daikon or Asian pear......
Have you cooked brownies using black beans? I'm going to try these tomorrow.
I have a very tolerant sister who tries what I eat as long as I give her some relatively 'normal' meals in between. The rest are ok as long as I don't confess to what ingredients I have used before they start eating. They were amazed that the faux poes tasted exactly like real mashed potato (so was I to be honest). Just need to adjust the texture.
My BS has really stabilised and I've lost 15 lbs so far so I'm definitely hooked on lower carb eating.
