Hi CCI keep seeing posts directed at newbies telling them not to eat root vegetables.
I know parsnips have a high carb content, raw carrots seem to be OK for a lot of posters and I think you would have to eat a lot of cooked carrots for them to have an effect. especially if you are not relying on them as the only vegetable on your plate. Radishes are eaten with salads, celeriac is a popular vegetable with many here as are turnips and swede, not forgetting horseradish. A few slices of beetroot with a salad seems OK as long as it is not just a plate of leaves. So to me it's only parsnips and potatoes that could affect my blood sugars. A meter will tell you what your tolerance is rather than dismiss all root vegetables.
Does anyone find that every root vegetable is off the menu?
Personally I think the way to go with advice to newbies who are usually well out of control is cut them out and test them back in once the numbers are going the right way
As they are probly in information overload, it's better to keep the advice as simple as possible
So I will continue with the no root veg advice,
Great reply for a root vegetable thread.....thanks......The only food that seems save appears to be fat, fat and more fat.
Personally I think some of us are giving the wrong message to new members.
I can have root vegetables without any problems according to my meter (puds excluded).
The word derailed has come up a few times in our humor threads. I now think we are getting our advice a little on the wrong track with regard to the long term journey copping with diabetes.
My point is we all have a heart to look after as well as our diabetes.
