Hi @RayCox - could you just expand a bit - what do you mean by too low?
for any meal, and particularly first thing in the morning, that requires insulin to process, you would expect some form of the classic curve...

I don't mean to insinuate that what you are describing is a "spike" - that's just the image, but the point being that anything like this will tend to result in a lower level of glucose than what you start with around about the time you are measuring, before it recovers again.
I think this is what you are seeing.
You would have to be using a CGM to get a better insight though.

To put it simply, if you are not on insulin or Glic or other medication known to cause hypo's; and you are just a Type 2 (without RH) then you are extremely unlikely to ever see a number which is 'too low'.
Even numbers which would cause a Type 1 or RH to worry and reach for the glucose tablets isn't a problem for a normal Type2 because when we get low our liver starts putting glucose into our bloodstream so that we bounce back automatically.

I wonder why you are trying to read the immediate high's from meals. What purpose does that serve? Even non-diabetics have an increase in BG from meals until their insulin response levels it out. It is only about 2hrs after first bite that their BG reading is almost certainly about the same as before the meal - so that is why us Type 2's measure 2hrs after first bite, because if it isn't a good number by then we know that our body didn't handle the meal so well because it contained too much carbohydrate.

As both results were 1st thing in the morning . How do I check if my breakfast in OK. If the drop in reading will always look like the meal I OK .

Both your meals worked in stopping your severe Dawn Phenomenon, which is great.
Somewhat surprisingly both meals got your 2hr post prandial BG down to 7.3, so neither of them can have been actually bad. However the allowed accuracy for BG meters means that you can't really tell how well your body coped from just a few measurements, but 3 or 4 time measuring the same meal is enough to be confident.
The 2nd meal appeared to do better in causing a reduction from 9.1 to 7.3, but both meals had carbs (depending upon how low car the granola was). Why not try a meal with approx zero carbs such as bacon & eggs, or just plain boiled eggs, or cheese and see if you notice a difference over a few tests?
