Hi Phil, I also used to have very high glucose levels... I used to wake up with readings on ~28. I completely changed my diet, starting counting carbs, checking calories. Starting going to the gym for very light cardio and my levels are most of the time below 7. Dont lose hope, I promise you it will get better.

Phil...
Something makes me think that you may have an excess of weight.. Even with high levels.. You will find that as your levels cone down and (possibly) some weight.. Then so will your insulin requirements.

However, there is no right or wrong amounts of insulin to take... Moreimportant to take what your body is needing.

At your levels, you could increase your basals at a rate of 2 units a day until you get down to under 12.0 at all times. Your bolus could also alter by a gram a time too....

There is no cut off limits for ur anyone's insulin. Your body needs as much as it needs...

Just needing to get you more on an even keel though.. Big swings will impact on your eyes and retinopathy, as will the higher levels.

Glad you dropped to lower levels... How were your tea time levels?

hi now on 70 units of lantus and on 9 units of apidra to 10 g of carbs. this is what hospital said to do increase the lantus 2 units every 2-4 days and increase the apidra 1 unit for every 10 g to carbs until it drops.

Something is wrong here phil.......your bg is high due to not injecting enough insulin. Are you drinking beer or lager at all or eating food that contains a lot more carb? Are you using the 100 rule to calculate your correction doses with the bolus? Is your insulin pen working ok and are
your insulin pen cartridges kept cool enough to prevent deteriation from hot sun? Are you bg testing b4 meals and then 3hrs later and using a target to calculate on? What insulin to carb ratio are you using at the moment?

sorry 9 units of fast acting insulin to 10 g of carbs. fridge is working and cooling fine it is only 3 weeks old but have done a temp test on it. I keep all insulin in the fridge except what I am using. this is why I stopped taking my insulin in the past as I just feel I can't get to grips with it. with all the other thing that are now happening I went back to the hospital. gggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr it's just getting me down AGAIN.

You are extremely insulin resistant. Apart from excessive weight gain, have you had tests done to find out if there is another medical condition going on that is causing you to need so much insulin?

hi
no other tests as of yet but back to hospital in 3 weeks to see dsn and week after to see specialist to see if there is any improvement will just have to see what they say but it is very frustrating at the moment when I think iam doing every thing right and it's just taking the mick out of me. apart from stopping the insulin or not eating any thing I just don't know what else to do???. I think that it is the insulin as I can smell it and I can even taste it about 20 minuets later that makes me drink 7-8L of bottled water or eat 3-4 ice lolly's to try and get rid of the taste. I can sometimes even smell the insulin when I go for a pee. when I stopped taking it last time all this stopped, but now other problems made me go back to see dsn. think I am ready for the funny farm lol.
