GP gave me a Freestyle Optimum Neo meter, lancets, test strips, etc to measure my BG on prescription - free in Wales
.
I was also sent a free one, Bayer Contour Next USB.
The trouble is I'm getting very differing results from both metres with bloods taken at same time. If the Neo gives reading of 5.3, the Bayer gives one of 6.5. The other day the Neo gave reading of 4.0, whilst Bayer 5.3. All very confusing.
Bayer closer to latest HbA1c result than Neo.
Has anyone else incurred a similar problem with differing results from meters?
Hello David
The glucose meters are only accurate to plus/minus 15% you can use two strips and the readings can be different, so it's unlikely that meters from different manufacturers would give you the same numbers. The only way to get a truly accurate reading is to send a sample off to a laboratory. So just pick a meter and use that one for your tests, the other one can be a spare.
