I purchased a finger prick machine today and tested my sugar level 1 hour after having a croissant and my sugar levels were 8.4. I was wondering if this OK, as it’s the first time I’ve used the machine.

Hello and welcome to the forum @sammymcgoff . 8.4 is a perfectly acceptable reading, in fact very good. If I may suggest, and this is what a lot of folks do to get the best out of these fingerpick tests is to test just before you have eaten and then two hours after. This way you can see how well your body has coped with the food you have eaten. If your blood sugars are over 2 mmol/ls over your first reading then you know you have consumed more carbs than your body can handle.
Everyone’s blood sugars rise after a meal, diabetics and none diabetics alike, it is how quickly your body can deal with those carbs that matter.

Thanks for the advice. I did this at lunchtime and had a bagel, some mayo and a bag of hula hoop crisps and it was 7.2 before and 9.6 two hours later so obviously I know I had too many carbs.
