I have a been 200+ since Monday and than it went away and now it's started again. I have a sore throat and head cold and I was wondering if this is the cause. Any ideas?? Thanks.
Yes, thats right. When you are poorly your BG goes up.
Not helped by taking cold medicine with high sugar content either. You should have seen me the first time I had a cold post-diagnosis, sitting up in bed at 2am dithering about whether I could suck a cough lozenge or not
Samantha,
Your glucose levels will often go up during an illness.
As a T1 test more frequently whilst you are ill. Do you have ketone testing strips? If your levels rise above 250mg/dl
then you really should be checking.
Here are some sick day 'rules'. I've found some from the US since you have used mg/dl and you won't have to change to mmol/l as used for glucose levels in the UK http://www.bd.com/us/diabetes/page.aspx ... 01&id=7347
Completely normal for bs to go up with any illness. Just getting over uti and had some very high readings even with adjustments to insulin. Settling back down again now I'm on the mend
