I have read so many articles/journals/medical diaries and websites as well as asking nurses/ doctors and medical professionals and it seems each one has a different goal for blood sugars.
I thought I would turn to my fellow T1 Diabetics on here and ask what you should/do aim for? I know it will change per person but what should I aim to hover around?
I aim for as close to 4 as I can get - I fell out with my DSN over this and haven't seen her for several months. My consultant however is very pleased with how I am doing.
No way would I aim for a 4... As a T1 that is dangerous. My consultant wants me at 6.8 to 7.2 but puts up with my hba1c being 5.8-6.2 more often than not... No way is a 4 for daily blood tests or hba1c for any T1 that has to drive either!!!
As regular people have blood sugars scores between 4-6mmol, I aim to stay in that range my A1C is usually around 4.9 to 5.4 which my specialist is very pleased with. As I have been a diabetic for 59 years and have NO complications it is working for me. I worry about doctors who say diabetics should run higher than normal sugars, to me that is the way to get gangrene, retinopathy and neuropathy
5-7mmol is my aim, but for some reason my BG will never come down much within 2hrs of a meal, my HBA1C is ok though. Regularly screw up though and have double figures in the morning.
