Blood Sugars when unwell

I just wondered if someone could tell me if it’s usual when you’ve not been well for your blood sugars to soar? I’d just like to know for any future occurrences as this is the first time of being unwell.
The other day I vomited in the night and therefore didn’t eat or drink anything afterwards for quite a while but was shocked to find my blood sugars had soared to where I had to do a correction dose of insulin at 8am even though I’d not eaten anything, but had had water at this point.
Thank you

For a normally-functioning metabolism, most of the ways the body interacts with blood glucose is about providing the body with glucose - to help with fending off that pesky lion, or to help out with dealing with an infection, or simply to deal with the process of engaging with deep sleep.

Because we are diabetic, we tend to think that there is only this simple relationship between insulin and food, but it's much more than that.

The kind of reaction that you show is alarming; but the reason for it is actually pretty natural, you need the energy to become well again.

As a quick aside, I hope your specialist has gone through "sick day rules" with you for your meds

Yes. I had a high fever, my blood sugars went up to 17 and stayed there, and that was without any food. It didn’t come down for days.
