Morning, I’m new to all this and I am struggling with eating breakfast as I don’t normally have it. Is there a shake I can buy from a supermarket that’s suitable to drink on the go? Thank you in advance

Why do you need to eat breakfast?

I went low carb as soon as I got my pre-diabetes diagnosis and one of the joys of this way of eating is that I no longer feel even remotely conflicted about not eating breakfast. I never liked eating first thing, it was always a chore, now I just eat one or two meals a day.

If you give us some idea of your usual eating habits, then there will be plenty of people along here to offer advice/suggestions.

Of course if you're on medication which requires that you eat regularly it's a different ball game.

Its difficult to offer any meaningful advice without knowing what type of diabetes you have and any medication you are taking. Why do you think you must have breakfast ? Is it to take your medication with ?

Morning, sorry bit useless on forums as well.

I’m type 2 and on metformin. Says take with meals and 1000mg am and 1000mg pm.

My nurse was the one who advised to eat breakfast but I find it so difficult as I don’t normally like eating till 11ish.

I was a nightmare for a takeaway but since being diagnosed I’m trying to be better.

I am trying to eat 3 meals a day and being healthier but I won’t lie it’s hard as I get hungry between meals.

I just thought it would be easier to get up and have a drink rather than making breakfast and eating stuff I find a chore

There is no reason why you cannot have a shake in the morning for breakfast. The real question is what is it doing to your blood sugar levels - how many carbohydrates are in the shake????

If you adopt a low-carb diet and get your blood glucose back down, there’s a very good chance you will be able to ditch the metformin and then eat whenever you like! In the meantime, I personally found coffee with double cream to be enough of a basis for metformin in the morning. You are only trying to avoid the notorious stomach and bowel issues metformin can provoke! I had these anyway, whether I ate before taking it or not.

Haven't had breakfast for 6 years.. coffee and double cream is perfect "meal replacement".

Edit to add ...then again my metformin went in the bin too...

Why not take the first tablet when you eat first, so 11ish?

That's what I do. I'm a bruncher not a breakfast person, though if I'm being pedantic, I think breakfast is whatever time I take my first meal.

No sugar no carbs = no almonds. Proper almonds have about 9g carbs per 100g.
I’ve just checked it’s 0 and 0 or the Aldi copy is 3 carbs with the protein shake

I’ve ordered a packet to give it a try. I know I must drink more water as well but I struggle! If I had a diet sheet or even someone I could buy prepared meals from Id be sorted

If you aren't eating breakfast already you don't need to start. These days I mistrust anything pre-made and prefer to make my own food etc. Sometimes it feels like they sneak carbs into everything.
