Can't keep anything down

I have not been able to keep food down since Sunday. I managed a quarter of a jacket potato last night without being sick. Other than that, I have been living on lucozades to make sure my sugars don't drop and that I have some energy.

Sugars haven't been high. They are a little unsettled as I'm not able to eat properly and, therefore, am doing less insulin. On the whole, though, they have been pretty good. No ketones or any readings over 11.

I'm managing to keep little sips of water down but, as well as being sick after eating, I am being sick for absolutely no reason. No food so it's all bile. Sorry, too much information I am sure!

I don't have any other symptoms and nobody else in the house has been ill. Starting to feel really dizzy as I haven't eaten properly for four days but I honestly can't keep a thing down. I'm glad it's not affecting my diabetes but it is make me feel terrible.

Any suggestions as to what might help? No other symptoms. Definitely not pregnant! Haven't eaten anything unusual.

Em

I am testing every couple of hours at the minute. Sugars are stable at 5-7 at the minute. I had a reading of 4.0 last night. Had a little bit of apple juice and went to bed. Woke up and they were 8.2.

With the lack of food I have been fainting quite a lot. My other half is working from home today so keeps coming to check on me. The puppy also bites my toes every few minutes just to check that I am still alive.

I phoned NHS direct last night. They told me to drink plenty of fluids and rest and to call my diabetes team in the morning. Tried to call the diabetes mob this morning - told they will call back before the end if the day if they can. If not, it will be tomorrow.

Will keep testing and hope that I get better soon. My stomach feels like it is in knots!

Call your GP.

An antiemetic tablet that you put under your top lip to dissolve can be prescribed by the GP.

Sorry you are feeling so sick. Best thing is a visit to your gp. Dehydration is a worry with so much vomiting. I have always been told if I can't keep anything down for 48 hours to go to doctor. As already mentioned above they can give you something to stop vomiting. Also something like Dioralyte to counteract dehydration is a good idea. Hope you feel better soon

How awful for you ! :(

I agree with the others and keep regularly checking for those ketones like you are doing as gastro upsets can be the worst offender I've found.

Take care

Hi all,

Just got back from the doctors. My diabetes specialist 'lives' there too so I also managed to see her.

The doctor said that there is a hug going round so it's probably just done. If it carries on for more than another two days I have to go back (or to the out of hours place). Told me to eat whatever I can in the meantime. Chocolate milk, Lucozade, whatever. As long as I am getting something down me. Plenty of water too so that I don't become dehydrated.

Sugars have been very stable today. In fact, much more stable than usual. With all the being ill I have also lost a few pounds. Maybe this isn't so bad after all?! ;)

Been told to take it easy over the next few days.

I am feeling a little bit better this afternoon. Managed a slide of toast and half a banana.

Continuing to check sugars and for ketones. Becoming worryingly addicted to Jeremy Kyle!
