confused with newly started Newcastle Diet after just one day lol.

Good morning Guys and Girls.
I started the Diet yesterday, been awakening in the mornings with 27 blood sugars feeling like hell, so as said started yesterday and monitored through the day and blood sugars going down all day, this morning i awake do a test and although not great it was down to 11.2 before breakfast Shake, done a test three hours later and was very disappointment it is up to 20.2, is this normal, i did not take metformin, should i have taken it, as said "Well confused".

What shakes are you having? Some meal replacement shakes are higher in carbs than others.

Did you have anything else to eat or drink?
What were your levels after the shakes yesterday?

Hi Cara, I have been using Tesco Ultraslim (Chocolate and strawberry alternatively) .
Before breakfast yesterday Levels were 27.2, 3hrs after they were down to 25.2.
Before lunch they were at 23.0, 3hrs they were down to 16.5.
Forgot to do them before dinner but 3 hrs after they were at 11.8 (cauliflower mash and tinned salmon, no shakes)
Drinking Bottled water throughout the day.

This morning down further, before breakfast shake, 11.1 then 3hrs later up to 20.9.
Going to have lunch shake at 12.15.

The shakes are mainly pure sugar, 25g per 29g servings, and 1g other carbs on top of that.

Have a look at Slim and Save. They have their own website and Ebay shop.

They also sell soup and 'meals' The soup is like Cuppa Soup,it's ok. I didn't like the meals but they may make a useful sauce for veg.

They also have chocolate bars, low carb, but not as nice as Atkins. Although slim and save add vitamins to their bars, which Atkins doesn't.

That's not overly high for a shake.
They're all going to be similar, it's a calorie controlled diet, you won't get any calories from proteins or fats in the packet mux, it's always going to be around that number of carbs for the calories.

It's not unusual to have odd readings with bs. and your overall carb load with still be low for the day.

You could try getting you bs down a bit first, before trying something as drastic as the Newcastle diet, and see if that helps.

Thanks Guys, i want to find a place to buy Optifast 800, mainly because that is what was used in the Newcastle Diet, but am having probs finding a source for it.

Only couple of grams per meal, and they're ten times the price of Tesco's.

Slim and Save isn't especially cheap but they do have a great variety which on this sort of diet I thought was helpful. You only add water, so no cost of milk to add.
They have offers on Ebay too.

There is also a website and forum if you need some extra support.

It can't be done any other way, the calories come from carb, protein, or fat.
To get the 200 calories, you have to eat a set amount.

You do if you're comparing them like for like, and also if you're making a 200 calorie meal replacement on the Newcastle Diet.

But for comparison then, tesco's made to 130 calories has 15g of sugar, for less than 20p, as opposed to 3g per meal less for £1.80.

As the weight comes off, your insulin resistance should improve.
Some exercise should help after eating, this normally lowers bs.
You may find that hard on such a low cal diet though, so nothing extreme.
You're starting with very high bs, more variations can happen there as well, it may be better to get that down by a less extreme diet first, and then try the Newcastle diet from a more stable starting point.

I compared I serving to another i.e meal replacement for meal replacement.
It's the carbs I noted

The Slim and Save diet I did was very similar to the Newcastle Diet, I just used a different brand of shakes. It is 3 or 4 meal replacements and a low carb vegetable based meal.
It was a low calorie short sharp shock.

In the research on the Newcastle University website Professor Taylor states that is is the significant weight loss that helps more than the speed of the loss and that when the fat that has been stored on your pancreas and liver is used up that is what gives your body a fighting chance of remission/recovery/reversal

It worked wonders for me!
