I continue to be unable to find Greek yoghurt in any of the local supermarkets, and the "Greek Style" is too watery for me, given that I still have a few pounds to lose and so rely on the Greek yoghurt to stay my hunger until the proper meal of the day. I was wondering about substituting cottage cheese until Greek yoghurt supplies return. I know I can (and will) look up ingredients, but wonder if any of you have information on whether starches are added to cottage cheese the way they are to certain yoghurts. If anyone knows, it will be the team here!

Cottage cheese is one of the easiest things in the world to make, if you can boil milk then you can make cottage cheese!
Maybe have a go at making your own then you know exactly what’s in it, basically milk, salt and either vinegar or lemon juice to create the curds - try this recipe

I remember my mother making cottage cheese. But I'd rather buy it ready made! Not if it has added carbs, though.

If you buy low fat of fat free cottage cheese, it is likely to have added starch.
If you buy Flavoured Cottage cheese it is likely to have ingredients that add carbs
If you buy Full Fat Natural Cottage chees, the ingedients are likely to be Milk and Salt. These are usually low carbohydrate.

You can buy the thinner yoghurt then strain it through a fine sieve (slowly no pressing) over a bowl to give a thicker product.
Or mix some lightly whipped double cream into thinner yoghurt to thicken it. I do this to the budget Greek style at 35p (Sainsbury's)

Try looking at the fat content and see if that relates to the thickness. I'd have thought the higher the fat the thicker the yoghurt

I'd considered the double cream option (sounds delicious!), but for now am leaning towards the cottage cheese. I'll be VERY pleased when proper full-fat Greek yoghurt reappears on the shelves. Tried three supermarkets yesterday, and nothing, but plenty of the low-fat rubbish.

My local lidl currently has Cornish clotted cream on offer - that's the lowest carb count out of all the diary section currently.

There was plenty of Fage in Tesco & Sainsburys at the weekend

Today Aldi had proper Greek yoghurt!!! None in Lidl still, but no problem now as have stocked up, and plenty left in Aldi for others to benefit.

Our M&S didn't and sadly I am nowhere near a Waitrose. However, Aldi had some again this week, so all well.
