Fish , bad manners,
Was due to attend Royal Devon &Exeter hospital on Monday for week long course of DAFNE , had pre assessment with nurse over phone at 4pm so booked and paid for accommodation at 4.30(as 220 miles round journey there and back to hospital )at4.45 pm get phone call saying course has been cancelled, so gutted as been waiting so long to get onto course, gutted as the money for accommodation is not refundable terms and conditions of booking online! , just want to try and get the diabetes control under control, and would like to try to get a pump but not sure if I will be put forward for a pump without doing DAFNE , been trying for pump therapy for over 6 years , so frustrated, feel like crying,

Fish , bad manners,
Today got even worse , letter today cancelling appointment with consultant that deals with pumps as he does not see patients unless they have done a DAFNE course , I been carb counting for 6 years or more but as I said I was happy to. Do a DAFNE they won t see me , I wonder what the point of life is , feels like no light at the end of the tunnel nothing to give me hope to carry on , life sucks comes in three- driving licence revoked , lost my work because there is no public transport, great now applying for benefits sorry people who pay taxes, DAFNE course cancelled , consultant appointment cancelled for 8 months, and no DSNURSE as I have transferred to Exeter hospital so my DSNURSE not under her direction, really out on my own

Hi alohanicky I cannot give you any practical help, but am sending hugs and wishing things were different for you. This is so awful to hear as if things aren't difficult enough. Do not apologise for applying for benefits I'm happy for my taxes to be used for you and you've paid yours anyway. Feel so helpless, x

Ah your having some bad luck at the moment Nicky, with regards to the refund on your accommodation have you tried ringing the hotel direct and speaking to the manager? I'm sure if you explain your situation they'll consider giving you a refund, tell them if they refuse you'll take your story to the local paper....that will make them change their mind!

Fish , bad manners,
Phoned the premier inn but terms and conditions were again pointed out no refunds but although the money is gone , I feel that my next problem is that although the diabetic clinic have said it's not I get the feeling that as I am so far away from the hospital there worried I won t be able to make the appointments if I get a pump as I may need a few appointments to get it right, the person not sure if she is DSNURSE said why don't I go back to Treliske , I explained been under there care since di agonised 18 years ago , trying with the only pump consultant for 6+ years for a pump he has no every year oft the last 6 with various reasons the latest. Wing hbac1 too high and last hbac1 have dropped to quickly, do these specialist know the roller coaster they put her on, fed up jumping through the hoops for them ,

Just completed a DAFNE COURSE after the previous one due to start in Dec was cancelled, would recommend if you have a chance to go onto a course DO IT! Been T1 for nearly 18 yrs with erratic BG levels, have a better understanding of insulin, food and although not so sure about when to increase , decrease doses and which ones , I gonna try to get a better grasp of it, now know the only way is to record BG ,and look and understand patterns, always know that I can ask for help on here .

I was supposed to go for a meeting about DAFNE last week, I think, but I didn't bother. What exactly happens, do you have to stay in the hospital for a week or go to the hospital every day for a week? Either way, the thought of mixing with strangers and no doubt doing those stupid, embarrassing role playing things which would probably come into it, doesn't sound appealing to me, so....

Bogus man - control of diabetes is something that we are all trying to achieve. If you have been invited to consider a DAFNE course this can only help you achieve. An open mind is surely a prerequisite ?

Fish , bad manners,
It was five days 9am till about4.30, as I said a small mixed group of 6 people ,various ages, you can participate as much or as little as you want, there was a lot to learn and what I had been told/ taught by former DSNURSE had changed. I am really glad I went, I'm in my forties and was a bit hesitant,

Fish , bad manners,
The role playing mainly consisted of looking at photographs of plated foods , home cooked, takeaways, restaurant foods and guessing how many carbs per plate or portion etc then writing down how many carbs, you can then either tell the group how many carbs or just write your answer in a book ,then told how many it was, it does not matter if you got it right or wrong just important to understand how the carbs was per plate, on one day we went out to lunch as a group and the group chooses were to go, ( but if it is decided to go to a pub ,you are asked to return in a learning mood! Exercise and diabetes was a afternoon session, and again can be as personal to youself and your sports that you do. We had a marathon runner , a climber and a shooter,

Thank you for the info alohanicky2009, I was right not to attend, not my cup of tea.
I know that may sound negative etc. etc. Alanp35 but some people cannot take part in such things, shyness and lack of confidence obviously not being prerequisite.
