Hi all, so bit of background info first. I'm just over a year into a type 1 diagnosis and have done really well on the whole grasping everything. I need to decide whether i want to switch before my review in a few weeks. My last HBA1c was 53mmol/mol (on libre now estimated as 50mmol/mol / 6.7%), and approximately 85% time in range. I probably have one hypo every few weeks or once per month just because I get frustrated and wait too long with meal timings with how slow novorapid is to work. Highs aren't terrible and often 12-13 at worst after meals if I have underdosed. The diabetic team always palm me off and say no as figures are good, but I think they could be even better.

I have alright numbers but novorapid has been a but frustrating sometimes because of all of these reasons below:

- Injections in the leg simply do not work at all, or not fast enough for meals (ends in high blood sugar). So use legs for tresiba

- Social settings such as lunches with friends, drinking etc. I have to wait anywhere from 25-30 minutes. Sometimes even longer!! So frustrating and friends/family worry something is wrong and if I'm gonna hypo any second (I hate the attention it brings, have to explain it's the norm)

- If I have a snack in-between meals, sometimes I have to wait an entire hour or longer, before the action kicks in (peaking)

- Corrections, do work but take 1 hour to even start to have an effect. I have to exercise every time it's high and gets tedious

So I can't help but think, yes the more powerful insulins like Fiasp, lumjev etc. scare me a bit. But surely, they would be quicker and more effective? What about hypo risk as I'm still relatively sensitive to effects of a new insulin too.

Should I make the switch? Please share your experiences if you have tried different rapid acting insulins, as I need to decide before my annual review in a few weeks. Are there any other newer ones than Fiasp and Lumjev? Thanks

Both Fiasp and Lyumjev work quicker for me than NovoRapid, I wouldn't want to go back.
For me, they are much the same as NovoRapid in dosing, no extra risks of hypos, I just don't have to wait that long for it to kick in.

Others have experienced Fiasp acting very slowly when used to bring down a high, slower than NovoRapid. I'm not sure on that one for myself.
I haven't heard the same about Lyumjev, but then, Lyumjev isn't used as common as Fiasp.

I've been using Fiasp for a few years now, and once I learnt the timing of taking it varied quite a bit depending on pre meal blood sugar, I like it. If my pre meal blood sugar is in the 4's or low 5's I take it near the end of my meal or after it to prevent hypo's. It works well most of the time, but it is slow to bring down high blood sugar, and feels like you're injecting water.

Really the only way to see if it works well for you, is to try it.
