DESMOND (Diabetes Education and Self Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed) is a UK NHS training course for people with type 2 diabetes that helps people to identify their own health risks and to set their own goals.
not all ccgs run a desmond program,
some have something similar X-PERT, DEAL,
some have no formal course, but have decent staff who run courses,
some, sadly, have nothing,
Not a Desmond course but X-EPERT is the course I have been booked onto at the end of June. 2 1/2 hours a week for 6 weeks. I was diagnosed 25th April, been taking 500g Metformin for 6 days, not had any side effects, been watching what I eat and keeping a food diary. Not told how many carbs per day etc.. so far lost 7lbs and also lost inches. Appointment with DN next week. Have also an appointment for eye test in early June.
