Diabetes and influenza

Hi,
It is recognised that flu and diabetes should be kept apart, this is why the Autumn vaccination program is important, but is there any research which provides evidence that diabetics are more susceptible to catching flu (or other) viruses?

I don't work in the medical sector and so I don't have a login to a many medical sites in the UK and I can only find limited information on unrestricted American sites, none of which can supoort or refute this statement. Anyone point me in the right direction for studies which do provide conclusion?

Thanks

As diabetics our immune system is compromised hence why we are more prone to colds and flu, I've only ever had proper flu once and it was an awful experience, ever since I get the flu jab every year and will continue to do so.

I was told that a very bad bout of flu was the trigger to my Type 2, I now have the flu jab every year and have never the flu (nor a cold ever since)
