Hi @HR-Guy. I couldn't find that article on that website, try as I might.

I like the expression 'food fatigue' although I can't imagine having it. I love my food! But I sure as heck get diabetes burnout from time to time (after having type two for 10 years). I mostly get it when having to train new medical professionals, and finding how to protect myself re nutritonal guidelines and the tick box system with offers of meds and cholesterol control in particular. So for me it's more 'med prof fatigue'. But yeah - Once I find, or found, patterns with food and drink and other metabolic factors and my blood glucose on a meter, I forget about it for a while. Only test if I think things are different. One can get 'meter fatigue' or 'testing and checking fatigue' for sure!

moved to my Home-State, so happy to be back and have my much-loved 4 Seasons again. Did not like the almost constant, icy winds off the ocean, and lack of shopping options (groceries and other). Did a lot of shopping online and finally gave up on any clothes shopping ;)
I relate to the "mechanical" term, as I've eaten the same foods/meals for near 4 years now. I'm actually back here, finally, since I believe I need more carbs than I've been eating on a stricter keto, with way more protein than fats.

The biggest reason I'm here is because I need other T2 folks, as I was not being "fed" by others that are diabetic understand what I deal with.

I have a new doctor I can hopefully "train" ;) I recently moved back to where I was raised Oregon, and so much good about being here. I isolated myself too long from others with T2, glad to be here. I just hope this time I remember what it's like to be without folks that understand because they deal with T2 as well :)

I know about burn-out, but I haven't given up on low-carb, I just think I've been "too low carb" so I've at least got back on my spinach ;) and avocados too.

Nice to meet you to @G0ldengirl68.

I hear you on the training medical professionals to meet-our-needs front. I'm going through the choosing new food regimes (not with medical professionals!), and choosing the best med/s for me right now route, and it's a cautious ride, even with my trusty long-term urban GP onside.

It sounds like you must have been mighty low-carb indeed if spinach and avocado were off the menu! No wonder you got food fatigue? But yeah - all kudos to folks shaking up their metabolism to deal with the diabetes, for sure. And the shaking of that ol tree means changing food and drink regimens from time to time for some of us.

I like what you say about forums feeding us - very good indeed.

I know what it's like, I went through it myself. It can be difficult to constantly keep everything under control. Sometimes you just need to pause and remind yourself that we don't have to be perfect. The main thing is not to be alone at such moments

A way of eating which is quite good and sustainable, is much more use than one which is perfect yet unsustainable.
We have to be in this for the long term, because we want to live a long, healthy and enjoyable life!

Hello everyone, I am Deepthy. I am in the middle of managing type 1 diabetes.

Hello Deepthy, I note from your profile you say you are taking oral tablets for your type 1 diabetes - is this correct ? Also are you suffering diabetes burnout ?

I don’t think I am a diabetes burnout. Fifteen years ago I was over 200 lbs. I was told I am pre, I stopped drinking, smoking, etc etc. Now I am 130 lbs, and eat very low carb. Take no medication, I can walk and breathe better. I changed my lifestyle. Good luck to all!

sticking to a consistent diet felt like walking through a culinary desert. The endless repetition of “safe” meals left me feeling very uninspired and dreading mealtime. But SLOWLY over time, I discovered ways to reignite my passion for food while staying within my dietary boundaries.

I always enjoy my food and coming up with new ideas to fit in with low carb/keto diet. Cooking an evening meal is a highlight of my day (and my husband's). Bored when I'm on an extended fast I often concoct recipes and add them to a spreadsheet to work out macros (and calories). I also try to include provision for a glass of wine or two when I am eating. The biggest drawback and anxiety for me is eating out - the menus where everything comes with chips and peas - are there any other vegetables? - I ask. Now that restaurants and pubs are feeling the financial pinch you can see clearly where they have cut costs. I dropped a clanger recently when I ordered a dish I had had a few times already and didn't notice that instead of a salmon dish it had been changed to fish cakes! "Sorry, I can't eat that - didn't notice you had changed the menu". Not the price incidentally. I can usually navigate my way round by declaring to all and sundry that I am diabetic but being invited to friends is still a challenge. "Oh I bought this gluten-free bread especially for you!". I try to establish what is on the menu and this often includes rice - well then I take a packet of frozen cauliflower rice with me so no problem but so many people just don't get it. Fortunately for me I like entertaining so will provide plenty of tasty dishes at dinner parties and hope that my friends notice that I don't eat any of the bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, deserts, etc. that I have provided for them. Pass the cheese board please!
