Has anyone read the Dr Bernstein book "Diabetes Solution" and implemented his programme.

Got the book of amazon and i have read about a quarter of it so far. It does go into a lot of detail about the medical side of diabetes but it is very informative. It certainly contradicts some orthodox treatment methods.

I am currently following dietician / nurse recommendations until my net blood test (2 weeks), then i am going to try his method until the next test (3 months) and see if i have an overall reduction.

Hi Steven,

Yes, I have Dr Bernstein's "Diabetes Solution" and "Diabetes Diet". Like you I found his views very informative, but I would say it contradicts ALL the orthodox treatments, not just some of them.

I try to follow the Diabetes Diet recommendations, but find it a bit impractical to stick to rigidly. For example I would love to start each day with a cooked protein meal, but there just isn't time in the mornings to prepare one. I compromise with an occasional low carb breakfast and on the other days have a lower carb cereal (porridge). I always ensure that at least one meal per day is low carb.

Hi Steven,

I'm with Dennis on this one. Bernstein's book ought to be prescribed to diabetics in my opinion, it's that valuable a resource. However closely or otherwise you adhere to his advice, an understanding of the principles at work will help you find a way that works for you.

Incidentally, my consultant, an eminent specialist in diabetology and resident Professor, hasn't even heard of it! And we wonder why they're so out of touch.

All the best,
