Diabetes solutions vs Think like a pancreas

Oh right I'm so confused then. I thought my bedtime levimer would be what I need to adjust to give me a morning bg within range? @tim2000s ? I definitely need to get Reading this book lol

Samantha

I think I would be increasing my bedtime levemir dose if I had bg levels similar to yours in order to get my morning bg ok but basal/bolus is hard work initially so until you are able to get the basals ok, just use the bolus a bit more to try to achieve good bg before eating and at the 2.5hr mark. (6mmol before eating, then 8.5mmol at 2hrs, then fall back to 5-6mmol again after 4-5hrs. There's an awful lot of trial and error so no one gets the doses ok just like that and not from a text book either. Testing bg levels every 2hrs and writing the carb eaten with bolus and basal in a bg diary helps an awful lot because it becomes easier to see the changes and then do something so that the next day is a bit better. Look at BDEC online and also the 100 rule to get a rough idea of correction factor.

Diabetes Solutions is enough to frighten the tish out of people with all the nerve damage complications listed chapter by chapter at the front of the book, followed by how Dr B's diet is going to save you from your sins towards the back by eating a very low low carb diet and taking vitamin tablets. I eat a low carb diet myself but not to the extreme of Dr B, so if you decide to buy it.........be warned and dont jump off the pier lol

Hi @samantha13 , I've read both and would definitely go for Think Like A Pancreas. All my knowledge and control came from Gary Scheiner and I still read through it every now and then.
