Hi, I have been a diabetic for 1 & half years now, when I was first diagnosed my sugars was around 20. or higher & when I started to take my insulin, after the first few weeks my sugars slowly dropped to an average of 6. to 8. Now I was currently taking 12mill morning & evening, however I was told that will rise greatly as the honeymoon period wears off. However the greatest thing I fear is the loss of my eyesight or even allowing it to get worse, so im very strict with what I eat & I am now on 16 in morning & 18 at night for the passed 8 months now.

Anyways, now you know a little about me :D & would like to ask a question. I have been having seriously painful headaches around the front of my head & behind my eyes. If I move to fast it hurts, if I talk it hurts & if I open my eyes for TV or even sunlight it hurts, when I close my eyes to try n sleep it feels like the room is spinning & I start to feel very sick & noxious I have just completed a day & night nurse, & now its returned, although its not as bad however it makes me feel sleepy & no apatite in food or anything because of it.

My sugars are around 7. at the moment & if I eat something that makes my sugars jump above 12. I no longer eat it.

Hope someone can help or give me advise as the pain at most times is getting to a point I cant cope..

Hi VsUK,
Have you considered that it may be a sinus problem and not related to your diabetes problem. Day and night nurse are not recommended for diabetics so I think you need to see your GP who will be able to prescribe something suitable.

hi,
i would definately see your gp as it may not be diabetes related and needs checking out :D let us know how u get on

Hi, went to the GP this morning & he did a few checks & he says its not my sinus when he checked, however they could be some small infection of some sort. Was not quite sure what was the cause of it but with it been persistent & painful, he told me to complete a course of medication, co-codamol 1 or 2 4 times a day & Cefalexin 1 3 times a day & if it persists im to return to him as soon as i can.

Sounds a bit like a migrane, did the doctor mention those? I know you can get light senitivity and nausa with a migrane, my sister has them sometimes.

Sorry for the poor spelling, not got time to spell check got to go get something out of the oven!

yep, he said it could be a possibility however migraines usually go after a good nights sleep & not persistent for a few days like mine is. But 2nd day of taking the pills n i feel much better, so lets see how it goes after completing the course :D

my migraines cant unfortunately last 3 days grrr :(
hope u are feeling better :D now

Yet another idiot HCP who has no idea.
Migraine is a serious and debilitating condition of varying degrees. I have it and I fear ir more than the diabetes. After 25 years of suffering, ambulance transfers to A&E and dumb GP's who simply don't understand, I have finally found a drug that works.
One of my colleagues has a type that, after MRI scans, many months off sick and worry still had no diagnosis. I saw her recently and she told me her story. I pointed her to this site

http://www.migraine.org.uk/section.aspx?sid=3

and now she has a diagnosis.

This is what the site has to say;

"Less than 2% of the population have never had a headache. For most people, a headache occurs occasionally and can be speedily resolved with something to eat, a short rest or a couple of painkillers.

Migraine is a great deal more than just a headache; it is the most common neurological condition in the developed world. It affects over 15% of the UK population and is more prevalent than diabetes, epilepsy and asthma combined.

Attacks can be completely disabling, forcing the sufferer to abandon everyday activities for up to 3 days. Even in symptom-free periods, sufferers may live in fear of the next attack"

I shall try not to soapbox this issue!

I suffered from migraines while on the pill. Maybe you should monitor when you are getting them,as mine were at the same time each month and would last for up to 3 or 4 days....yes, and very debilitating. Mine were from my body wanting more oestrogen (on the sugar pills). There are many reasons affecting individuals for getting migraines. I've read that it can even be the ions in the atmosphere!! Good luck... I hope you feel better soon.

Well, so far ive been feeling well, although i completed one of my med course & left with a few more days of co-codamol's. I forgot to take some this morning n my headache is starting to come back.

I agree with the symptoms of migraines as when, which i believe it has to of been a migraine as ive never felt such pain in my life, even when i was shot threw the arm whilst in the army didnt even hurt as much. The pain is just unbelievable & i just cant bring myself to do anything & it angers me when people try & talk to me, even the wife or my little son & i hate feeling like that as its not what a farther should feel towards his wife & kids. But im told thats what migraines can do when there causing extream amounts of pain.

anyways, if the headaches come back when ive completed my course, i will go back to the GP with details from the site & maybe he will understand.

thanks
