First of all I would like to reiterate an apology for a post a week or so ago. My language was unacceptable. I had however gone into mental melt down and self destruct mode . I was having night mares with Dr's and dns . Who have messed me about somthing cronic. I was diagnosed type2 only just over 1 month ago. At the first dn visit I was asked for a urin test and hba1c . I was told to come back in in 3 weeks which was the 6th I rang and asked for my hba1c results 2 days before my appointment (102) nothing else was said about the urin test. I turned up for my appointment on the 6th to be told I was wrong and my appointment was on the 13 ( that was definatly not the date I was told as the 6th was 3 weeks and 13 was 4 weeks plus I had asked for first thing appointment as going away for wend and I knew I was working on the 13th) at this point I went into full melt down and didnt want anything todo with drs or dn or even diabetes. If it wasnt for my bgs going up slightly and the left hand side of my abdomen protruding far further than the right I probably would not have gone back but I took time off and made the appointment. I was told the urintest was worrying ( they had known this for nearly 4 weeks at this point but not bothered contacting me) and the dr needed another test. So I did the test . I rang the drs this morning first thing and was told the dr needs to see you asap and you have a appointment in 35 mins you need to be there. So I left work and drove 20 miles to my drs. To be honest at this point after being told that I have kidney damage things go a little hazy. But the outcome seems to be from what I remember being said that I have kidney damage caused by the diabetes that is still on going due to Diabetic kidney disease. I have been put on tablets that he said should stop/ abait further damage and kidney failure ( for some reason he kept saying about kidney failure wich was worrying) and may regress some of the symptoms. He also said " you have been testing bgs havent you" I said yes and he said good good what are they ( he had previously started grumbling it the direction of vastly reducing bg monitoring) I told him what they were and he said they where still to high considering my kidny problems upped my metformin and a small dose of the tablet for my kidneys with the understanding they were dangerous and will be upped but have to be done slowly as they lower blood pressure. And also said to keep checking bgs . And that he would test again in few weeks (cannot remember if he siad 2 or 6 weeks my head had gone west by that point) and if my test had not improved then I would have to see a kidney specialist. My bg are usuall between 6.4 and 8.4 at mo but loweris after swimming and higher is after eating verry low carb meal but if have more than say 3 grms of carbs with meal can go up far further ( 12.4 after corn on the cob and a few nuts the other night) I find it odd the dr thinks im too high yet the dn says aslong as im under 11 with just the odd spike that shes happy with that. I also got a call to go for a ultra sound scan on the protrusion on abdomen on friday as I came out of drs office. I still haven had results back from bloods taken on fri for liver and a whole bank of other blood tests inc somthing to do with why little jimmy isnt working properly At the moment. I dont beleive if i handn called this morning that i would have received a call from the drs and would have been told in 6 weeks when i next see dn . I am going from slighly numb to overwelmed to nonchalant or not knowing how or what I should feel. its almost or maybe even is very surreal. And im not 100% sure of the implications be they worse or not as bad as I think. Personally I didnt think it was going to be too bad or even too worried to start with I think. but I find I realy worrying that a dr that seem to have a very apathetic attitude is now seeming to be taking things very seroiusly

Hello Whompa

I wondered where you were as you joined the group about the same time as me.

I have very little time for doctors and so your poor treatment doesn't surprise me.

I haven't got any words of wisdom about your kidneys, I suppose at least now its spotted they should keep an eye on it. Hopefully you will get to see a specialist.

Meanwhile keep up the diet and exercise!

Good luck
Cara

Hi carb Foods
Whompa,
Sorry about the kidneys. Had same kind of rug pulling at diagnosis.
1) Sorry youve got Type2 diabetes, you're on basal/bolus insulin now!
Rowlocks, shed bolus, then basal, shed Gliclazide, Now Diet & Exercise.
2) By the way, you've seriously impaired kidneys, We'd like to take a bit for biopsy.
-What difference will it make for treatment?
-None, but It'll get worse anyway!
-You're not doing it then!
So nearly 6 years on, I've raised my eGFR by~ 50 % so now sitting on the CKD3/4 border.
(Note after 3 years off insulin Nephrologist stil says I'm on insulin despite telling him/her each "6 Monthly" and he got my eGFR wrong again  )

hey welcome back i too was wondering where you had got too :) doctors are awesome huh, i have stage 2 borderline stage 3 Cronic Kidney Disease according to my blood tests but doctor when i asked said we dont worry about that until it gets worse  lol so here i am waiting for it to get worse, on the up side the low carb lifestyle seems to be the best course for CKD so keep doing what your doing, a good friend of mine on here has turned her CKD around low carbing i believe she has gone from stage 4 to stage 2 so dont dispair, make sure you are well hydrated before your next blood test because dehydration can skew the results in a bad way and make them appear much worse

I think you need a second opinion on your treatment. My T1 husband has kidney disease and I can tell you that Metformin is not recommended for people with it,[read the leaflet with your tablets!] so upping your dose may be the wrong thing to do. The best diet for failing kidneys is reduced protein and reduced carbs.

TBH, I don't know, It just crept up. My diet is low carb (not ultra) and low sodium, my Protein intake isn't high and make up my calories on fats & oils( Coconut oil, butter, (extra virgin )olive & nut oils. Possibly It was an acute event and I've recovered part of the function naturally, or the LCHF diet did some good to the kidneys as well as the diabetes..

I was diagnosed with stage 1 tipping towards stage 2. I've told no one. I am petrified but keep trying to shove it out of my mind. I was put on Tritace. The idea was to start on 2.5mg and gradually increase to 10. I have episodic low blood pressure anyway and was told not to take tablets if I was dizzy so am on a very irregular schedule and cannot be increased from 5mg because it lowere my bp too much. I was told that maintaining good bg levels would reverse kidney damage but it is holding steady.

Tbh its a case of stop the world I wana get off. Tottaly confused hard to put into perspective but guess its only been a day and also guess the new med can make you less than on top of your game. At mo don't really know much about it and font really think I want to . I just wana urinate in a cup when I am told snd take what im told and have nowt else to do with it lets face it there I nothing I can do about it appart ftom controll the diabetes wich I am trying to do. I cant see it being too bad as the only reason I know is coz of routine tests I have not had anything else I dont think teling me somthing is wrong .
