I have diabetic retinopathy and have had both eyes lazered and am awaiting my next hospital appointment. I have read that Bilberry Extract - Lutein and Alpha - Lipoc Acid can help. Does anyone have any experince and if so are these helpful and what dosages do you take. Any other advice would be welcome. My August 2011 HBAIC was 7.0
Hi,
I was taking an eye supplement with bilberry and lutein for several months, ask have retinopathy & suffered a bleed. I didn't see any results at all from taking it. When I asked my eye doctor, he said "if it worked, we'd be prescribing it".
But like any alternative health type thingy, it might work differently for different people, so it might be worth a try if you can afford it?
I've had background retinopathy for just over a year, but have recently started to see my retina in my peripheral vision. My GP thinks I'm already getting vitreous fluid going under my retina, even though my screening didn't pick it up. I've got an appointment to see eye specialist on 23rd November. No urgency then?!
Anyway, being scared I bought some Lutein with Zeaxanthin, 6mg once a day.
I've done quite alot of research on it and all reviews have been good so I thought I would try it. I was going to get the bilberry one but it was too expensive.
