Diagnosed and distraught

Hi All,

I am almost 30 weeks pregnant and took the test last Friday to be contacted on my sons 3rd birthday to be told I had GD. I don't think I have managed to stop srying since, I desperately wanted a home birth and have been told by a Dr. I saw today that wouldn't be able to happen even if my sugars come under control and in the normal range and my baby is measuring ok. Has anyone else had a home birth under these circumstances?
I am desperate to have a home birth as we have no family close by and we want to be able to look after our son while I am in labour
Any advice, stories or tips would be much appreciated

Thanks

Suzanne xx

Hi Suzanne.
You can have your baby wherever you want to, it's your decision. Your health care providers can only offer advice, information and recommendations. You find out the risks and benefits of all options and decide whats best for you and your family.
Obstetricians in general, don't like home birth and will do anything to try to stop them (disclaimer here, there are some that support homebirth, not that anyone needs a sanction to have a homebirth and I know of a few who have had homebirths).

You may find the following sites very useful

http://www.homebirth.org.uk/
and
http://www.aims.org.uk/

For stories and information from Midwives and consumers try http://midwifery.org.uk/ and go to the email discussion group.

All three sites have a huge amount of information on your rights, GD and homebirth to name but a few.

Thank you so much for the links - they have helped and also given me more 'food' for thought!! I haven't managed to look at all the information yet but I am sure I will over the course of the weekend.

I would be really interested if anyone has a homebirth story where GD was present.

Thanks again :D

Suzanne, if you join the discussion group at the ARM you can post the question there and I can almost guarantee you will get quite a few responses. There are some amazing Midwives and women there. I know of at least two women who are T1 and had homebirths subscribe to the list.
