Diet and blood glucose

Decided to loose some weight ready for the summer by dropping calories to about 1400 a day (I'm a 20st 55 yr old guy !) and using my Freestyle machine my blood sugar has plummeted to around 5.5 to about 9.0 now from a high before of 16.5. Taking the readings when I get up and a couple of hours after my main meal in the evenings.
I'm left wondering if the GP surgery rushed into a type 2 diagnosis, any thoughts ?

No, I think if you were having those sort of readings then you are Type 2 diabetic. However it sounds like your new diet has bought your blood sugar back to normal (weight loss will help too, of course). But it doesn't mean you are not diabetic; if you went back to your old diet, then your sugars would probably go back to being high. One thing to remember is that a non diabetic would virtually NEVER have sugars like that, no matter what they ate.

Good luck with the weight loss!

Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low carber, Hba1C at diagnosis 8% (11mmol), now between 5 and 6 mmol. 20kg lost so far :)
