Hi all of you experts out there.
I recently had a blood test to show my glucose level has come down from 43 mmol to 38 mmol so I am no longer considered pre diabetic
So, my question is about how to keep it under control.
We are off to Thailand soon for 2 months. For breakfast I normally have fresh pineapple, mango and banana topped with muesli, chia seeds and vanilla yoghurt.
So I can see 4 problems here. As far as I know all those 3 fruits are high in sugar and the yoghurt is not greek. Quite likely has added sugar. It's the only type I've seen where we will be staying. Other fruits are scarce over there.

Also we tend to eat a lot of chicken curry made with coconut milk and white rice.
Should I be wary of white rice rather than brown rice? Also there seems to be mixed opinions of coconut milk.

As we will be there a long time I don't want to undo all the hard work I've done to achieve lowering my Glucose level.

Given the better weather we will be a lot more active than here in the cold. My weight isn't an issue, if anything I want to increase it.

Could you take some nuts with and just have nuts with some yoghurt for breakfast, I couldn't tolerate all that fruit
Coconut milk shouldn't affect your blood sugar, is have a vegetable dish with my curry rather than rice.
I was pre diabetic many years ago but despite being very slim I can't eat any rice, white or brown.

My A-one C is thirty four mmol, the last time I checked. It is well under control. I cannot eat those fruits or any kind of rice. I don’t take any medicine. For sure I am pre diabetic. If I go by the numbers there is no evidence I have diabetes. I do have CKD three. My nephrologist says I don’t have diabetes. She has been looking at my A-one C numbers, which are stable for a while now. But I do have diabetes. I can only talk about myself. If I eat fruits and rice, and coconut curries etc. I am sure I will be type two diabetic in one week. So personally for me it is only control and control. Good luck.

That sounds like hard work. I was so happy when my blood test came back at 38 mmol and my G.P commented on the NHS app " no concerns".
Now I'm not so sure reading your reply.
I don't understand these A-one C numbers or what CKD three is.

I guess I'll have to try and watch what I eat and get my blood tested when I get home but definitely can't afford to loose any weight.

As far as I'm aware I have no symptoms of diabetes. Touch wood!
Thanks for your reply.

Fruit , noodles and rice are the ones to avoid if diet controlled diabetic in Thailand. There are plenty of low carb veg available there to have instead of rice/noodles. There are also plenty of grilled/roasted meat/fish dishes - just avoid using too much sauce on them as it can be quite carby.

The main reason for choosing Greek (or Greek-style) yoghurt over other plain yoghurt is mainly to get a higher fat content rather than worries about sugar. Unfortunately flavoured yogurts will almost certainly have some sweetener added, even if only some sweet fruit.

Skinny type 2 here. Currently in Thailand.

Don’t forget to bring your meter and test new stuff as you go

I’ve found lovely street food which according to my libre is just about ok. The libre is a luxury but at the moment I’m worth it

I’ve also been to a fab , but expensive steak house which of course hardly made a blip

Generally I can’t recall having lower waking glucose levels ever

The place I’m staying at made me salmon and eggs for supper. It’s taken a while to get that kind of food but I think it’s worth the effort

The weather certainly helps !

Enjoy !!!

Sorry for the late reply. My iPhone has software issues.A1c test checks 2-3 months blood sugar. You can type A1c in Google and get detailed info.

CKD 3 is kidney number, cronic kidney disease. if blood sugar number are high it effects your kidneys. Again you can type CKD in Google and get detailed information. Good luck. Omar

We are usually in Thailand at this time of year too, but this year, life got in the way.

Anyway, for breakfast there, I usually have hard boiled eggs (I batch cook them), with a tomato, cucumber and if I'm starvin' Marvin, I'll add some cheese. When we have been in hotels, I have often had an omelette with ham or such likes.

I don't know what your lifestyle is when away, but I walk a LOT, so generally speaking my insulin sensitivity is great there. That said, I do pretty much stay low carb, even though even the tropical fruits don't touch me.

For dinners, we always eat out and I just stick with the tasty bit of the meal (i.e. the curry) and forget the rice/noodles. After the first raised eyebrow, nobody bother.

If you are in an apartment or house, and will be shopping for some food (Brekkers and drinks in our case), then look around. Many places have Australian supermarkets and Greek yoghurt is available in there. The supermarket chain, Lotus is their version of Tesco, and they carry a good variety of Tesco own label products, although they are mainly store cupboard items, rather than fresh.

If you are in or near any of the bigger resports and there is an ex-pat community there will likely even be at least one shop selling baked beans, Lea & Perrins, Branston Pickle and the like. :) You might just have to ask around.

Enjoy!
