Do I have diabetes?

I have always had an issue with sugar in that I had a lot of problems if I had refined sugar I would end up passing out. Just a spoonful of sugar in a cup of tea would cause me to have a 'fainting fit'. I don't have a high sugar diet as I'm not keen on sugary things but crave salty things like crisps and cheese.
However, having turned 30 I have found it very hard to eat normal foods. I used to be very slim (hence my username) but struggle to be slim or even near it now.
I exercise and watch what I eat but think there is something else wrong. I've had my thyroid checked as my doctor thought I might have a goitre but while I have a lump in my neck it has been shown that I don't have any issues with my thyroid (despite certain symptoms). However, I'm just not convinced everything is ok. I don't eat sugary things, I exercise pretty well (5k running, cycling, climbing stairs, weight machines) but nothing makes a difference. I can eat a scant breakfast of something healthy (poached eggs on brown toast/omelette that feeds me all day) but I'm hungry an hour later. I can't lose any weight but have legs that look like a skinny person but a bloated stomach like a pregnant woman.
Does this sound like diabetes?
I also suffer from dry skin (not badly), irregular bowel habits and will feel lethargic after white carbs at lunchtime (who doesn't?).
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Sinmelin

Welcome to the forum.

As I am not a doctor, I am unable to offer a diagnosis. If you feel that it is a possibility a simple blood test will reveal all. Has your doctor said what the lump in the neck is? If it is undiagnosed, I would have thought that you should be referred to an ENT specialist.

Hope this helps

Hi Skinmelin

The Thyroid issue is complicated, you can still be under active Thyroid with "in range" labs. Previously I did a longish post about it on here somewhere, try a search. This can cause weight to stick around the middle and extreme tiredness, puffy skin, dry skin, hair loss, and more.
It is difficult to piece things together when you know things are just not right, but keep at it ,as you know your body the best...and if things are out of kilter your body will tell you.

Have you had your Cortisol levels checked, might be a long shot , but having very thin arms and especially legs but holding weight around your tummy area does sound Cushingoid. High levels of Cortisol are produced by the Adrenal glands. Some of the symptoms can overlap with Diabetes ,and even be co-morbid. There is a Thyroid ,insulin, cortisol axis that is very common...one effect's the other. All hormones at the end of the day

Might be worth getting these checked and looking into Thyroid conditions again...Have you been checked for Diabetes?

Hope you get to the bottom of it ,it's not good when you feel unwell and can't find what it is, good luck.
