I took simvastatin for about 18 months, they took my cholesterol down from 5.2 to 3.0. After reading about them and that they are not proven for women. I stopped taking them. My cholesterol has gone back up but I'm not bothered. I think it is something that I need especially as it is implicated in conversion of sunlight to Vitamin D. Even if there was a case for me to take statins, I think that I was on too high a dose as I think 3.0 is way too low. I talked to my GP about my views on statins and he said that I should take them but that it was my decision and I said I wasn't taking them. He then found a box on his computer screen and ticked that I won't take them. We have the discussion about me taking them on an annual basis, but I decline. I'd like to add that I have taken part in medical research where I had a CT scan of my heart and the cardiologist said I had no calcium deposits and everything is working well.
