Does my diabetes effect whether or not I can get a provisional license? I've heard stories about people being declined a license on the basis or having T1, is this true? Do I need a doctors note etc. Any info would be great.

This should answer most questions. I think basically they issue licenses, but usually short term, around 1-3 years. If you have more than 1 hypo requiring assistance from someone else, they won't grant a license for 12 months, or will revoke your current driving license.

just going through the process at the moment. with car license it is now renewed every 3 years. i am a lgv (old hgv2) driver, i will now have to renew every year. DVLA will send you some medical forms to fill in,and with those forms will be rules and regs on what you'll have to do to keep driving....like be over 5 to drive......and know how to treat a hypo....its all manageable thankfully

Just managed to get my driving licence. Although I only have for a year before I have to renew it I had to get a medical report form and get my specialist to fill it out but luckily was granted as I had improved my level control drastically in 6 months. I will just have to be careful with driving lessons etc.

I'm fully hypo aware. Never needed help or ever passed out..
My licence has been renewed on the maximum 3 year basis since passing my test without issue..
Indeed they have clarified the law more recently with insulin using diabetics which puts it under the "driving under the influence" bracket if behind the wheel below 5....

As opposed to in my early days as a new driver (late 1980's) where I felt I was lumped in with the epileptics...?
