My e-petition "Allow Type 2 Diabetics the means to test their own blood sugar" has now been published at: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/15374

Please sign this, and encourage everyone you know to sign too. Then, maybe, we can get this whole situation raised for further consideration by the government, if not resolved.

    Thanks,
    Jacqui

Re: e-petition "Allow Type 2 Diabetics the means to test the

You have my vote, the research that has led to this decision seems to be controversial and as is often the case questionable in the way it was carried out and the selection of the partisipants involved in the study.Diabetics who use control strips to control their glucose levels are bound to show little difference when using metformin or other medication because they are pro-active in monitoring their condition,by using control strips.

Signed. I'm very aware how lucky I am to have my GP who told me there is no question of my not having testing strips as she realises the only way I can cope with my diabetes is taking control for myself.

Re: e-petition "Allow Type 2 Diabetics the means to test the

DONE and shared to my Facebook! I personally feel sensitive about this as I was categorised Type 2 initially, given various reasons for not being advised to self test. However, since I've had some further tests and two visits to the specialist, and suggestions I may be 1.5 etc, I've been positively encouraged to self test and keep a diary. WHY?

I bought my own strips/lancets originally (once I joined this great helpful support forum) which really helped me become more aware, especially as I had an op a few weeks ago and had readings in the mid 20s! During an emergency appointment, the GP was happy to give me a meter and strips then and Ketone test strips (I ran out of my own meter strips that I was buying at the time).

I literally embarrassed the nurse to stick me on to repeat prescription when I told her the two outcomes above. She murmured to the new trainee GP (who was not british' - not that this is an issue but merely for context for the nurse's statement to her, "we don't usually give out meters/strips, but she knows how to self test" (?) I only know that from the forum!

A meter and strips/lancets should be considered as a cheaper preventative step than wait for people to lose control and and end up on hospital beds in the A&E corridor....
