Hi all,

This is my first Easter since being diagnosed with T1 and Is anyone else finding it hard to ignore the adverts for chocolate and side stepping the mountains of chocolate eggs in the supermarkets? I have a will of iron, but can't help but dribble as I bypass all these goodies. :***:

I agree. You have your insulin so there is no need to deny yourself a treat every now and again. If you weren't type 1 you would eat what you wanted. Just think that the only difference now as that you are giving your body the insulin instead of your pancreas :)

Everything in moderation.

But that egg :)

I'm T1 on mixed insulin so I can't bolus for the chocolate treat, I'd just have an enormous spike, so I have to steal myself away from all the choc delights:(. I've never said "no" to so many things in my life. I'm amazed at my self discipline, but know I'll crack at some point as I'm not super human.

I know from experience that chocolate hikes up my bg levels something shocking.

Ah yes... He died for our sins... & Two days later, rose from the dead as a pair of socks..!

That's how i remember my childhood .. Socks.. Everyone else got eggs.. lol

I always reasoned the messiah was the human embodiment of a "Sun god" anyway.. it all coincides with the spring pagan mumbo jumbo.. Hence the egg in the mix. They really love to commercialise everything don't they! :)

As your on fixed doses you could knock some carbs off your main meal and have a small piece of chocolate as a desert, or have small piece as your mid-morning/afternoon snack, but the high cocoa content chocolates are very nice so there's no need to go without.

As @noblehead say's :) Is there any reason to be on a mixed insulin dosage? Using MDI would give you a better quality of life.

If you could change to long acting and novo rapid and do the DAFNE course you would find it a lot less restricting :)

As yet, no one has me offered MDI. Doesn't that mean about 5 injections per day? I don't fancy that at all.

Hi!

I know how you feel.... I work in a chocolate factory! True story. 3 weeks after starting there I was diagnos type 1.
I'm surrounded by chocolate all day.

Lindt 90% is great and really low carb. You can buy it at Sainsburys and you soon adapt to the taste :)

It can be up to 5 injections, if you eat say 2 or 3 times a day and get away with just injecting your basal insulin once a day (as opposed to split-dosing to give a full 24 hour coverage) then you can inject less on MDI .

Not eating chocolate really doesn't bother me - much - but the freshly baked hot cross buns keep calling to me. I miss bread soooo much but it shoots my BG into orbit :-( I don't suppose anyone has a half decent low-carb HCB recipe do they?

Agree with @Emmotha - a couple of squares of Lindt 90% deals with the chocolate craving.

I have a confession though... I had a Mars bar last month to celebrate 43 years of T1.
Initially I had it well under control, but then ended up a tad hypo ;)
