ED & insulin

I've not long been diagnosed pre type 2 (blood sugar just below 7). I've done what my doctor asked, diet (went from 14.5Stone to 12.5st) and excercised more (walk to work 3 times a week), lost a few more pounds but my ed problem hasn't improved. Being a chemist, in most reactions if one redresses the balance the symtom goes away. So this got me thinking. If I went on to insulin tablets would my ed problems go away?
Anyone out there had their ed problems improve once they have gone on to taking in extra insulin :lol: ?

Insulin, being aprotein, would be digested if taken in tablet form, which is why it Must be injected.
ED can be a difficult one to solve. Doctors can prescribe Viagra or cialis, or Levitra to men who suffer from it. If none of those works, there are other treatments. So See your doctor!
Yet again a patient is left with a problem, which is difficult to bring up and which the healthcare professionals know is common. THEY should bringup the subject with ALL male patients.
 
Apologese, shows my lack of knowledge. I once had a conversation with a fellow diabetic who stated that he didn't have anyed problems. He controlled his he said by taking tablets (he didn't mean viagra ect) and exercise. I presumed he meant insulin tablets.
Perhaps what I should have asked in my original question was do men who take in extra insulin hve ed problems?

I dont think ED is related to the amount of insulin you take...

ED is caused by damaged tissue caused by high blood sugars... ie, bad control.
 
No such thing as insulin tablets, as Hana corectly points out it is digested if taken orally. Tablets do exist to increase your own insulin production.

The problem may be neuropathy caused by high BG levels, try doing this

and adjusting your diet accordingly so you no longer spike after eating. Also this

may help over sufficient time.

It's also important to control your BP, high BP usually comes alongside Type 2: one cardiologist describes Type 2 as a cardiovascular disease sometimes associated with high blood glucose.

Of course ageing doesn't help, what used to be flexible gets stiff, and the other way around.
 
Thank you to all of you for answering my question. Sounds like my problem is irreversible (i.e will never get to what it was before). ED drugs help but not perfect. I was rather hoping that it would be a case of "Le-Chatilier's principle", that is if my blood sugar levels were lowered that the sympton would reverse. Seems this won't be the case due to tissue damage. Ah well, there are worse things that can happen.

No, what we're saying is that it *might* reverse, but it will probably take time with your BG and BP controlled depending on the cause. Neuropathy can be reversed as the nervous system has quite a lot of spare capacity and the signals can be rerouted and blood pressure-related damage can also reverse as the BP is controlled, but just as it didn't start overnight it won't get better overnight.

It took something like several weeks before my peripheral neuropathy started to resolve, and a couple of years before my heart started to behave normally again. ED is somewhere in between in terms of timescale. Persevere! (and flirt with cute women half your age, works for me but then I'm old enough now that they don't see me as a threat!)

Mine's better than it was but not as good as it used to be. I think my ex-wife would have preferred me like this.
 
ED USUALLY COMES WITH DIABETES NOT PRE DIABETES WITH SUGAR DAMAGE TO THE NERVES AND BLOOD VESSELS. I THINK IT MAY CORRECT ITSELF SOMEWHAT. VIAGRA AND CIALIS HELPS.. ALSO GET YOURSELF A WILD WOMEN, THAT REALLY HELPS...KIDDING TO A CERTAIN EXTENT..THEIR ARE A FEW HERE IN PANAMA CITY PANAMA, AND CENTRAL AMERICA.. THAT ABOUT ALL THE GOOD THINGS HERE... AGE AND GENERAL HEALTH ARE FACTORS, IE OVER 65 AND OVERWEIGHT, AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.. CHEK WITH DR.. OR A WILD GOOD LOOKING WOMEN..
 
Hi Anthony, it was ed problems that showed that I was pre-diabetic. They showed about 3 months after I changed jobs. Before I changed jobs I walked to work 4 days a week (a 4 mile round trip, I also used to swim during the odd lunchtime) then having a longer journey for my new job I stoped walking. I took no other exercise outside of my job. It took me a further 2 months to pluck up courage to go to the doctors. Had a fasting blood test, which my GP at first couldn't believe the result (he almost had me convinced that I hadn't eaten before hand for over 12 hours), told me to diet and had another test 3 months later which was the same. Still got the ed problems, because I'm only pre-diabetic I have to pay for my ed medication. Being a tight fisted Yorkshireman means I don't take many tablets:lol:
I don't think my wife would be too pleased if I took your advice :twisted:

Agree, technically I am still "only" prediabetic although only by a whisker but many of my symptoms started occurring years ago, to a degree it depends if you have a slow or fast progressing type but the postprandial spikes seem to be enough to cause certain forms of diabetic damage long before the fasting goes south.

Watch out for those wild women in Brazil, they may not necessarily all be what they appear . . .

TRY THE 50MG VIAGRA, THEY HAVE A NEW ONE HERE TEGAZEPIN 50MG CHEWABLE , WORKS IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES, DO NOT TAKE AFTER HEAVY , FATTY MEAL..THIS CHEWABLE MAY ONLY BE AVAILABLE HERE IN CENTRAL AMERICA, IT IS A GENERIC VIAGRA.. stephen i reread your question.. do you mean taking extra insulin to cure ED, NO THAT WILL LOWER YOUR GLUCOSE LEVEL WHICH IS GOOD BUT STAY AWAY FROM HYPOGLYCEMIA.. TEST AND TEST.. ALTHOUGH I ONLY TEST IN THE AM STRIPS ARE EXPENSIVE, I USED TO TRY FOR 80 BUT NOW IT`S 90.. WE TEST DIFFERENT IN USA AND CENTRAL AMERICA.. 110 OR LOWER TO 60 IS GOOD.. I THINK 60 IS TO LOW FOR ME..TAKE CARE TONY
 
Hello Tony, The thought behind takin Insulin was, would this reverse the damage? I occassionally take Viagra (which I have to pay for) and found that even at a full 100mg tablet I don't get a harder do dah. I've got some Cialis (Tadalifil) to try. I'll let you know if is is any better than Viagra. I'm 51 yrs old.
I agree that some of the problem is mental though thankfully now that I have accepted my situation (as you can imagine I got a little depressed) it is less of a problem.

Hello Tony, Just visited my GP yesterday to discuss my latest blood test results. Cholesterol 5 (OK) and fasting glucose 5.8 (0.2 lower than previous). So he's crossed me off. Told me to keep up the good work and go back in a tear for another blood test. As I still have some ed problems he is referring me to a specialist.

PS is there a web site where I can get a comprehensive list of good and bad food stuffs. Someone has told me that if you eat certain food stuffs together you can eat 'bad' stuff' as the good stuff sort of cancels the bad out- if you know what I mean.
