I've just had my annual appointment with the specialist regarding my Metabolic Syndrome.
As I thought, my HbA1c readings have risen a little to 50 from 48
I'd suspected that had happened as my average daily readings had risen to mid 6's (used to be 5's) I've had 3 months of continual stress due to hubbys illness and oncoming operation. Stress now doubled due to my recent gynaelogical problem which has me on an urgent 2 week referral.
Anyway she was still really pleased and said that I have excellent control and she was happy for me to continue on diet and exercise alone. Kidneys, liver, blood pressure all looking great.
I brought up the problem of my weight .. I have stayed the same for the last 2 years despite trying so hard to lose.
She then suggested that Jardiance/Empagliflozin might actually help with weight loss. She said it was a fairly new drug and most of her patients had lost weight on it. She was unsure how it would work with LCHF but said it was up to me if I would like to try it. She also added that although she was happy with my glucose control it would help there too.
Have any of you had any experience of this ? also any low carbers taking it ? All advice welcome, thanks x

I don't have any first hand experience of it. Take it you have already seen this http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-medication/jardiance.html
If you don't need it for BG control then I wouldn't take it for weight loss as its not designed for that, it just might be a side effect.
I think your right about the stress. Why not see if you can get the weight loss started using diet/exercise. What are your current stats? Weight, height, exercise, diet, etc. You could start a diet and exercise blog and ask for help that way.

Thanks @Mark_1 I have dieted my whole adult life.. hence the metabolic syndrome. My body is superbly efficient at hanging on to my weight.
I did lose 2 stones in 6 months on LCHF but then it stopped and I have stuck at the same weight for 2 years now.
I have tried fasting , skipping meals , lowering calories .. further lowering carbs etc.. I can only maintain that weight on lower than 30g carbs daily.. any more and I gain. I powerwalk every evening and have a couple of 3 hour dance sessions weekly.

I still think a blog or just a diary would be useful. Do you track everything, exercise, calories, weight, etc or just carbs. Do you know how many calories your eating on average a day? Have you worked out how many you need? If your goal is to lose weight, diet works best followed by exercise, any drug will have a minimum effect, usually by stopping you absorbing calories properly. Sound like you have the exercise part already worked out. What's you current diet like? Calories, Fats, Protein, Carbs?

I do keep a daily food and BG list but don't split it into carbs cals etc. looking back I guess it averages about 1500 cals a day.
Today was:
Breakfast: Bulletproof coffee (glug double cream and a teaspoon of coconut oil)
Lunch: Half Lidl protein roll. butter, 2 slices smoked ham rolled with a spoonful of cream cheese
Dinner: Small duck breast, cauliflower mustard mash and a handful of broad beans
No snacks yet but I might have a few nuts sometimes. I have a small ramekin dish so i don't overeat those :)

1500 calories a day and the exercise your doing should be enough for most people to be losing weight. Might be worth weighing things out for a week, and weigh yourself now and in a week. Cream, butter, cheese, duck, nuts are all calorie dense so an estimate could be off by quite a bit. 10g butter 100 calories, 10g of walnuts 70 calories, the difference between a flat and heaped spoon can add up. Plus its easy to forget about any unplanned snacks, drinks etc. Once you have a baseline to work from you can make a plan going forward.

I took canagliflozin on lchf. I lost 7-9lb but had severe thrush so had to stop it, hence weight re-added.
I know for a few the weight loss stops after a few weeks.

Thanks @ickihun .. I've never actually tested for ketones ? What do I need to do this ?
Some new meters can test for both, ketones and bg levels or you can get a seperate meter just for measuring ketones . Or the old fashioned way is to buy the urine test strips on-line. Not sure if chemists still sell them.

I wonder if hubbys Gluco Nexus does this.. if he's over 15 it sometimes says check ketones ? Do I just buy different strips ? I'll check it out.. thank you x

Ever thought of trying "My Fitness Pal" to track and watch calories, carbs & fats on a day-to-day basis, allowing you to set goals and bar-code scan your foods for accuracy. I'm T2 and on Empagliflozin and Metformin using the app I have finally dropped 10kg in a month and for the first time in ages my BS is under control. Just a thought, but it might help you.
