Hi there,

My medication no longer keeps my bg levels at an acceptable level so I asked to be refered to the hospital diabetic clinic which I have been. Today I got an apt for the week before to the endocrinology clinic to see a specialist. have to take a water sample. Can anyone tell me what they do at this appointment as I am very nervous of hospitals (although I dont feel scared of the diabetic clinic itself s it is to see a nurse rather than a doctor...I have a real fear of doctors)

Thanks.

I felt exctly the same when the ophamology department referred me o their own dibetic department.

I expect they are all similar although I am sure there re many more experienced in thee hings than I am.

I had to have a recent HBA1C before I went . When I arrived I saw a nurse who weighed and measured me and did a fingerprick bloodtest and ook my blood pressure. Simple as that.
then I saw a doctor who had my file and other information about me online .
he asked me some questions , then gave me a form to take to my own GP :for anuvia}
He then told me the consultant would seee me in 6 months time. On the way out he asked if i would like to see he dietitian .

Simple as hat.

When I returned 6 months later I had done so well with the Januvia and low carbing that he discharged me from the clinic.

I was quite upset. I am TERRIFIED by my own pracice's reviews etc. It is an ordeal! I don't trust them because hey don't know what they are talking about .They will not accept my white coa syndrome although it is well documented and i acually have 2 bp meters at home - one to check on the other.

I found it a refreshing change o talk o people who knew about diabetes.

I think we all fear the unknown but my experience was that here was nohing out of the ordinary.
I hope it all goes well for you.

Thankyou for that, not quite so daunting when you have some idea.....none of which I got from my GP surgery or the clinic when I rang them. I dont think they realise some of us are actually frightened of hospitals/doctors etc and just a little advice would help settle our minds.

Again , I know exactly what you mean. When I received a letter abiou the hospital appointment i called he diabetic nurse as i wanted to lnow if this meant I would in future be seen at the hospital rather than at he Gp's . She said she couldn't say- knew nothing about it and it was strange that "they" hadn't told me! very reassuring.!

Surely they know that the unfamiliar is daunting? I know several nurses who tell me hat they suffer from White Coat Syndrome.

Just been for the appointment and it wasn't half as bad as I thought. Urine sample was fine, that was a worry so thank goodness. The doctor was really good and like unbeliever said it was good to talk to someone who really knew what they were talking about and was extremely informative. Diabetic clinic next week, but I don't feel as nervous about that one.

people that make me panic. Racism - in fact most 'isms'
I think most people have 'white coat syndrome'. Apparently it also works for cholesterol checks and can raise your cholesterol levels significantly.
