I was diagnosed Type 2 just over a ago. Prior to the diagnosis and ever since I have been suffering the most prolific sweating-mainly head and neck (not sweaty palms etc) and it is literally driving me mad. Have told several of the GPs in my group practice and also DN - none of whom seem to take a blind bit of notice. All I want to know is "is this quite normal with T2" and what is causing it and can they not do an anything to relieve this most uncomfortable and embarrassing problem. It may be nothing to do with Diabetes but surely there must be a medic somewhere, or a known test to discover the cause and give me some relief. Any other sufferer as bad as this please help if you have found an answer to the problem.

Check your medication (if taking any) to see if sweating is listed as a side-effect.

Here you are carophie, an article about autonomic neuropathy that explains about nerve damage and sweating.

AN can affet the nerves that control sweating..............

I suffer from this also although I am type1. Excess sweating can be associated with diabetes but I haven't found a lot of info about it really. It's quite likely to be related to hormone levels from what I can gather. There are some things that might help so if you are really concerned about it then I definitely recommend talking to your doctor again (or a different one if that's possible) and getting across to them that it is a real problem for you... don't take no for an answer!! They should refer you to a dermatologist primarily and then possibly neuro.

I know how frustrating and depressing this can be so you have my sympathy.

I have suffered from excessive head and face sweating for around 10 years. I was diagnosed with T2 9 years ago which coincided with the menopause and because of this my GP has always insisted that the sweating was caused by the menopause and never considered the diabetes. The only test I had for the sweating was thyroid which came back normal. I am hot all of the time and then on top of that I get hot flushes when my heart pounds and my face and chest go bright red. I then return to just being hot! I do charity work working with children and it is very embarrassing dripping all over the books and one child actually asked me if I was crying.

A new development over the past 4 years is my arms, upper back and chest react to sunlight and my skin itches which feels like insects are crawling over me. I am currently taking Metformin (2000mg), Atorvastatin,(cholesterol), Fenofibrate (lipids), Ramipril (blood pressure) and Nebilet (a beta blocker for non specific chest pain). I am sure one or more of my medications has made my skin sensitive to sunlight but I don't know how to work out which one.

Have any forum members any ideas on how to get my symptoms under control as they are currently driving me potty. When I sweat this triggers the itching and I seem to be in a vicious circle. I have thought of stopping my medications for a week and then gradually introducing them to see if it makes a difference.

For the first time ever, I have started to come out in a rash which apparently is prickly heat, which can be caused by excessive sweating, which I suffer badly from. As far as seeing the doctor is concerned I have seen the specialists several times and have been told that "there is no magic pill" which will stop this. I have had all the tests and they have all come back within normal limits. In fact some of the tests have been repeated just to make sure.
Perhaps someone has a homeopathic remedy?
